Manaslu Circuit Trek Overview

The Manaslu Circuit Trek, a 14-day journey, is an adventure around the eighth-highest peak in the world, Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters/26,781 feet). During this two-week Manaslu trek, you will hike the hidden Himalayan trails, enjoying the natural serenity and peace. Far quieter than Everest or Annapurna, Manaslu is a trek for travelers who want wilderness, authentic culture, and the satisfaction of a route most people never get to.

Manaslu trekking is officially open to solo trekkers for the first time, starting in March 2026. Nepal has removed the two-person permit requirement; now you can book this adventure entirely on your own terms.

As you hike along the beautiful trails of the Manaslu Circuit, you will cross several local settlements. Here, you will find a mix of ethnic communities comprising the Chhetri, Brahmin, and Magar in the lower regions and the two major sub-ethnic groups, Numbri and Tsum, in the higher-altitude areas. Each community has distinct cultures, traditions, heritages, and lifestyles. However, the hospitality throughout the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal is unmatched.

The Manaslu circuit trekking trails showcase local religious and cultural heritage. Along your journey, you will find vibrant prayer flags, chortens, and mani walls lining the trails, offering a vivid tapestry of a Tibetan-Buddhist-inspired lifestyle. From Samdo, you can also experience the breathtaking Tibet View Trek.

Furthermore, the mountain views from the Manaslu Trek, including Manaslu (8,163 m/26,775 ft), Himalchuli (7,893 m/25,896 ft), Ngadi Chuli (7,871 m/25,823 ft), Gangaurna (7,455 m/24,452 ft), and the Annapurna Range, are simply spectacular, providing a constant backdrop of majestic peaks. Additionally, if you'd like more adventure, you can add on an extended trek to the remote Tsum Valley.

Larkya La Pass Adventures and Manaslu Circuit Trek 2026 and 2027

Our 177km (110 miles) trekking loop traverses a strictly protected natural oasis. You come up from the low river valleys into the high pass through very different ecosystems.

Lower Wilderness: Dense subtropical forests alive with orchids, bamboo, and rhododendrons (varieties of red, white, and pink rhododendrons). This region is home to rare wildlife, including the Himalayan tahr, musk deer, elusive snow leopard, and danphe (Himalayan monal).

High-Alpine Lakes: Pure glacial settlements that provide ideal resting places. Make acclimatization side hikes to Birendra Tal (3,450 m) at the base of the Manaslu Glacier and the crystal-clear alpine waters of Ponker Lake.

The Cultural Transition: You’ll see a perfect transition of cultures. In lower villages, trekkers can find Hindu Chhetri, Brahmin, and Magar villages. Nubri Valley (Upper) Here you will experience Tibetan Buddhist lifestyles, old stone Mani walls, spinning prayer wheels, and active historic monasteries (gompas) such as Lho Gompa (Ribung Monastery), Sama Gompa (Pungyen Gompa), Sho Village Monastery, Shyala Monastery, and Mu Gompa in the wider Manaslu Conservation Area.

Gompas (Monasteries) in Manaslu Region

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is not just a trek through dramatic Himalayan landscapes but also a cultural walk through ancient Tibetan Buddhist heritage. The region features several historic monasteries (gompas) that mirror the spiritual life, traditions, and architecture of the Nubri Valley.

Lho Gompa (Ribung Monastery): One of the most important monasteries in the upper Manaslu region, in the village of Lho. It has beautiful views of Manaslu and is an important spiritual site to local communities.

Pungyen Gompa: A sacred monastery near Samagaon, set against the backdrop of the magnificent Manaslu Glacier. It is frequently passed on acclimatization hikes and is heavily linked to local legends and beliefs.

Sama Gompa (Samagaon Monastery): A peaceful monastery in the village of Samagaon, representing the rich Tibetan Buddhist culture of the region.

Sereng Gompa (Serang Gumba): A hidden gem tucked deep inside the sacred Nubri Valley at approximately 3,100 m, accessible as a rewarding side trip from Samagaon. Surrounded by alpine forests and Himalayan panoramas, this active Buddhist monastery is one of the few places on the trail where trekkers can experience an overnight stay inside a working gompa, making it a truly rare and spiritually immersive stop on the Manaslu Circuit.

Sho Village Monastery: A smaller but culturally important monastery above Samagaon with a peaceful atmosphere and traditional Buddhist ambience.

Shyala Monastery: Located in the village of Shyala, this gompa is surrounded by panoramic Himalayan peaks, including Manaslu, Himalchuli, and Ngadi Chuli.

Mu Gompa (extension of the Manaslu Conservation Region): A very remote and spiritual monastery in the wider area, known for its isolation and importance to religion.

These monasteries are not only a great add-on to the trekking experience but also provide an insight into the unique Buddhist traditions of the Manaslu region and make the journey culturally and spiritually rewarding.

Can You Trek the Manaslu Circuit Solo?

Solo trekkers can now join the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Nepal has officially removed the two-person minimum rule for all restricted area permits.

For years, the Manaslu Circuit was off-limits to independent travelers, not because the trails were too difficult or permits weren’t available. But because Nepalese law requires a minimum of two foreign trekkers to obtain a restricted area permit, solo trekkers either had to find a stranger to share their permit with, join a group departure they didn’t plan for, or simply give up on the trek entirely.

That rule ended on March 22, 2026, when Nepal’s Department of Immigration issued a formal notice confirming that solo foreign trekkers can now apply for restricted area trekking permits individually. The Manaslu Circuit, along with all 15 restricted zones across Nepal’s northern border, is now fully open to solo travelers for the first time.

Important Note: While solo permits are now allowed, trekking with a licensed guide is still mandatory, and booking through a registered agency remains required. Book through a registered trekking agency.

Manaslu Circuit Trek Highlights

  • Cross the dramatic Larkya La Pass.
  • Traverse through the diverse landscape, ranging from lush forests to high-altitude arid, desert-like terrain

Larkya La Pass: The Highest Point and Ultimate Challenge of the Trek

The crossing of Larkya La Pass (5,106 m / 16,752 ft) is the defining highlight of the Manaslu Circuit Trek. After several days of gradual ascent through traditional villages, forests, and alpine terrain, trekkers reach the highest point of the circuit and are rewarded with spectacular Himalayan panoramas.

On Pass Day, the trail begins before dawn and follows the lateral moraine of the Larkya Glacier. From the summit, trekkers enjoy breathtaking 360-degree views of Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), Himlung Himal (7,126 m), Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and other snow-covered peaks.

The crossing is physically demanding due to the altitude and the long walking day, but the gradual acclimatization built into the itinerary helps prepare trekkers for this challenge. After the summit, the route descends through alpine landscapes to Bimthang and continues toward Dharapani.

Why Choose the Manaslu Circuit Trek?

The remote Manaslu Circuit Trek is an off-the-beaten-path trek in Nepal and a natural oasis comprising stunning trekking trails, wildlife sightings, and stunning mountain views. This serene journey offers untouched trails far from the touristy crowds of the Everest Base Camp Trek and Annapurna Base Camp Trek. You can experience Tibetan Buddhist culture in Numbri Valley, pass through ancient mani walls, take in the beautiful Tibetan prayer flags, and immerse yourself in the rich local customs.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Trekking in Nepal

You won't find as many trekkers on the Manaslu Trek as you would on other popular trekking trails. But here, nature is at its best, which allows you to travel in a serene setting. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings and take in the crisp mountain breeze as you travel, unbothered by the tourist crowd, through the diverse terrain of the region.

Cultural Experience

The Manaslu Circuit extends toward the Nepal-Tibet border with the Tibet View Trek. Therefore, the local culture and lifestyle have Tibetan influences. Moreover, you will experience cultural harmony and warm hospitality as you travel from one destination to another.

Tibetan Buddhist traditions highly influence the Manaslu Circuit Trek, especially in the Nubri Valley. Here, you will find ancient gompa monasteries and can further witness Tsum Valley’s unique sky burial sites and prayer wheel rituals.

High-Altitude Adventures

During the 14-Day Manaslu Trek, popularly known as a teahouse trek, you will reach a maximum elevation of 5,106 meters (16,732 feet) at Larkya La Pass. Though strenuous, the Larkya La Pass offers rewarding views. From this viewpoint, you can enjoy the glorious sight of Ganesh Himal, the Manisri Himalayan Range, and several surrounding peaks.

Sustainable Tourism

Our 14-day Manaslu Circuit teahouse trek blends alpine landscapes with Magar village homestays. With an intent to give back to the community, we emphasize sustainable tourism. We partner with local businesses to preserve the essence of the Manaslu Conservation Area.

Wild Life and Natural Beauty of the Manaslu Region

The Manaslu region is a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. A protected zone under the Manaslu Conservation Area, you may encounter Himalayan Tahr, Musk Deer, Snow Leopards, Red Pandas, Himalayan Black Bears, and Grey Wolves, along with vultures, eagles, colorful pheasants, and the Danphe (Himalayan monal), Nepal’s national bird.

The Manaslu trail passes through an impressive variety of landscapes, from lush subtropical forests blooming with rhododendrons, orchids, and bamboos in the lower regions to alpine meadows, glacial moraines, and dramatic high-altitude terrain as you approach Larkya La Pass (5,106 m). Every step is a new and breathless experience with the natural world in the Manaslu region.

Beautiful Glacial Lakes Along the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Along the trek route, trekkers can explore amazing glacial lakes that add a peaceful and scenic highlight to the journey. The most notable are Birendra Tal, located near Samagaon at an altitude of around 3,450 meters, and Ponker Lake, both surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks and pristine wilderness. The crystal-clear glacial waters reflect the surrounding astonishing mountains, offering a truly mesmerizing sight and a perfect resting point during the trek.

A Quieter Alternative to Everest and Annapurna Treks

Unlike the heavily trafficked Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Circuit routes, which see hundreds of trekkers daily, the Manaslu Circuit welcomes only a fraction of the foot traffic, approximately 15 trekkers per day on average. This makes it one of the most peaceful and unspoiled trekking experiences in Nepal. The Manaslu trail remains raw, authentic, and largely untouched by mass tourism. If you’re looking for dramatic mountain scenery, rich culture, and challenging trails without the crowds, the Manaslu Circuit is the perfect alternative.

Authentic Teahouse experience in the Manaslu Region

This Manaslu Region Trek offers a genuine teahouse trekking experience in Nepal’s Himalayan region. Unlike the most commercialized lodges on the Everest and Annapurna routes, the teahouses here are family-run establishments where you are welcomed as a guest rather than a tourist. Wake up to home-cooked breakfasts and a warm cup of tea or coffee and the sound of mountains outside the window. Evening meals are shared in cozy dining rooms warmed by traditional methods, where you can connect with local families, fellow trekkers, and your guide over a freshly prepared dinner.

Is the Manaslu Circuit Trek Right for You?

The two-week trek to Manaslu is not the easiest in Nepal, but it is one of the most satisfying treks. This guided Manaslu Circuit Trek Nepal journey is ideal for travelers seeking remote Himalayan landscapes and ancient culture. Before booking, it is important to understand who this trek suits best and what kind of experience to expect.

This trek is perfect for you if you enjoy quieter trails, cultural immersion, and walking 5 to 6 hours daily across varied mountain terrain. You do not need to be an athlete, but a reasonable level of fitness and a positive mindset are essential for this trip. The trail crosses suspension bridges, steep ascents, rocky paths, and high-altitude landscapes, including the challenging Larkya La Pass (5,106 m). Previous trekking and hiking experience is helpful, though many first-time trekkers complete the journey each year with proper guidance.

The Manaslu Circuit may not be ideal if you are looking for luxury accommodation or have never experienced trekking at higher altitudes. But we have the option of the Luxury Manaslu Circuit Trek for a luxurious experience with upgraded vehicles and rooms. Teahouses along the route are simple, comfortable, and welcoming, but facilities in remote villages can be basic. Likewise, trekkers with serious heart or respiratory conditions should consult with a doctor before planning any high-altitude adventure in Nepal. This trek is best suited for travelers who are prepared for physical challenges, changing mountain conditions, and a more remote trekking experience.

If you are still feeling unsure whether the Manaslu Circuit Trek is the right choice, our team at Global Adventure Trekking is happy to help. We offer pre-trek consultations to discuss your fitness level, trekking experience, and travel goals so you can make the right decision with confidence.

How Difficult is the Manaslu Trek?

The Manaslu Trek is considered a moderate-to-challenging trek due to its high-altitude passes, remote terrain, off-the-beaten-track trekking, and long walking days.

Difficulty at a Glance:

  • Trek Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
  • Walking Hours Per Day: 5 to 8 hours
  • Highest Point: Larkya La Pass (5,106 m / 16,752 ft)
  • Trail Type: Backcountry mountain trails and teahouse trek
  • Technical Climbing: None
  • Good for Beginners: Yes, with good physical preparation
  • Key Challenges: Altitude, long walking days, remote terrain

The biggest challenge is the altitude on this Manaslu trek journey. As the trail climbs above 3,000 meters, the risk of altitude sickness increases, making proper acclimatization essential. The crossing of Larkya La Pass is the most demanding day of the trek, often requiring 8 to 10 hours of hiking over rocky, sometimes snowy terrain.

Trekkers should also be prepared for long daily walks on uneven trails, suspension bridges, stone staircases, forest paths, and glacial ridge sections. Manaslu is still a relatively remote region with fewer facilities and longer distances between settlements, unlike the more developed Everest and Annapurna regions.

No technical climbing is involved, but good fitness and proper acclimatization are essential. The trek is ideal for fit beginners who are comfortable with continuous hiking in the Himalayas over several days and have prepared adequately.

Previous trekking experience is not mandatory but is highly beneficial. Anyone with good physical fitness, strong determination, and some endurance training can complete the trek. Regular hiking, cardio workouts, and leg-strengthening exercises before the trip will greatly improve your Manaslu trekking experience. If you'd like a detailed breakdown of terrain, altitude, daily walking hours, and fitness requirements, read our guide on How Difficult Is the Manaslu Trek?

Dedicated Safety & Altitude Protocol

Wilderness Safety: Manaslu Acclimatization Protocol

To cross a 5,106-meter pass, you need to be physically fit, but there are strict safety logistics involved. Acute mountain sickness (AMS) is a real risk on any high-altitude Himalayan circuit, and it is the reason why Global Adventure Trekking (GAT) enforces a strict medical protocol on every departure:

Thoughtfully Planned Acclimatization Program: Our itinerary incorporates gradual altitude gain and a dedicated acclimatization day in Samagaon to ensure your body adapts safely before climbing to higher elevations.

Guide Training and Experience: Our licensed trekking guides are trained to recognize the early signs of altitude sickness and react quickly if symptoms develop.

Daily Oximeter Checks: Every evening, your guide uses a digital pulse oximeter to track your blood oxygen saturation levels and resting heart rate, logging your acclimatization progress.

Medical Kit: Guides carry a comprehensive first-aid kit stocked with high-altitude therapeutics (including Diamox/acetazolamide).

Flexible Safety Decisions: Should a trekker develop significant altitude-related symptoms, the itinerary can be modified to allow additional acclimatization or descent to a safer altitude.

Clean Drinking Water: Guides use medical-grade water purification systems to provide safe drinking water throughout the trek.

Helicopter Evacuation Preparedness: We maintain relationships with the major domestic helicopter charter companies in Nepal. You must have valid travel insurance cover to arrange for a helicopter medical evacuation in the rare case of a serious medical or altitude emergency within a few hours.

98% Trek Completion Success Rate: With experienced guides, a well-planned acclimatization schedule, and stringent safety protocols, we ensure that nearly 98% of our trekkers complete the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Your safety is our highest priority, and our guides are trained to make conservative decisions whenever health or weather conditions require it.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will prepare to leave Kathmandu in a local bus to Maccha Khola. This is a 7/8-hour scenic drive through beautiful villages and terraced farmlands over the spiral highway, taking you through small settlements. After crossing the Trishuli River from Malekhu, you will reach the district headquarters of Dhading.

You will continue on an uphill drive along the black-topped roads, enjoying the scenic views. After reaching Salyantar, you will reach the off-road stretch to Maccha Khola. The journey continues through cascading waterfalls and farmlands alongside the Budhi Gandaki Gorge. Maccha Khola is also the entry point to the Manaslu Region.

After breakfast, trek alongside the Budhi Gandaki River, passing rhododendron forests and waterfalls. Your journey will take you across several settlements, including Khorla Besi, Dovan, Jagat, and Yaru Bagar. In Khorla Besi, you will find natural hot springs. If you begin your trek early, you can spend some time relaxing in the Khorla Besi Hot Springs.

You will reach Jagat by early evening. Cross the traditional stone walls to reach your teahouse, where you will spend the night.

The trek to Deng takes you from the Jagat checkpoint along challenging paths and cultural centers. Leaving Jagat, you drop down a flight of stone steps to the riverbed before climbing a rocky ridge to Salleri, where you catch your first glimpse of the snow-capped Shringi Himal (7,161m). Begin the day with a gradual ascent toward Sirdibas. On the way to Sirdibas, you will pass through charming villages like Philim, Ekle Bhatti, and Nyak.

Next, you will walk along the dense forest trails toward Deng. Deng is a Gurung and Tibetan village decorated with colorful prayer flags and Mani walls. You will find mesmerizing views of high cliffs and the Budhi Gandaki River's deep gorges. Enjoy the view before heading for dinner at your teahouse.

Your journey to Namrung starts with a gradual climb through villages like Bhim Phedi, Ghap, and Prok. After crossing the villages and experiencing their distinct cultures, you will head toward the dense forest and cross wooden bridges over the Budhi Gandaki River to reach Namrung.

Namrung offers a beautiful panorama of icy mountains. You can enjoy the views of Ganesh Himal and Siringi Himal as you explore the Namrung vicinity. Overnight stay in Namrung.

We bid goodbye to Namrung and head toward Lho Gaun, admiring the magnificent mountain views of Namrung. After leaving our teahouse, we hike along the steep jungle trails toward Lihi.

As you travel toward Lho Gaun, you will experience the vegetation thinning and transitioning into a more alpine terrain. After a 5 to 6-hour trek, we will reach our teahouse at Lho Gaun. You can get a glimpse of Mount Manaslu from today’s destination. We will continuously walk towards to Shyala Village, with the most beautiful views of the Manaslu.

Today, you will cover approximately 8 kilometers as we trek toward Samagoan via Pungyen Gompa. The trek gives us clear views of Mount Makalu and Naike Peak. A detour to Pungyen Monastery is also an option during today’s journey. You can collect the spiritual aura from the Buddhist monastery and continue toward Samagaon, where you will spend the night.

This serene monastery offers stunning glacier views, rich Buddhist culture, and a peaceful atmosphere, all set against the backdrop of panoramic Himalayan scenery. It serves as a popular acclimatization stop for trekkers before they continue toward Larke Pass.

After a week-long trek, you will stop for a rest at Samagaon. Throughout the trek, you have been gradually entering the high-altitude region. It is important to acclimate and reduce the chances of altitude-related sicknesses.

Today, you can explore the village or go on a short hike to the Manaslu Campsite or Birendra Tal. Return to Samagaon by evening for dinner. You will spend the night in Samagaon.

Today’s trek includes a leisurely journey through the dense pine and juniper forests. The trek gradually takes you toward the barren lands of Samdo. Here, you will find several Buddhist monuments, including prayer flags and mani walls.

Continue your journey toward Samdo via the Manaslu Base Camp Viewpoint and the rugged Himalayan terrain. After a short 3 to 4 hour trek, you will reach the Tibetan refugee village of Samdo.

Overnight stay in Samdo.

The journey today takes you over the rugged Himalayan terrain but offers equally rewarding views of the majestic mountains. Your first stop after leaving Samdo is Larke Bazaar. This is the trade center of the region, which is adorned with Buddhist monuments, mani walls, chortens, and prayer flags. From Larke Bazaar, you will head toward Larke Base Camp and take in the views of the magnificent landscape before heading to Dharmashala.

In Dharmashala, you will spend a night under the shadows of the Naike Peak.

Today is the pinnacle of your Manaslu Circuit Trek journey, as you will reach the highest point of the trek. Get ready for a trek over difficult mountain terrain. Upon completion, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the mountains and the surrounding landscapes.

You will start the trek by crossing the four frozen lakes and then head toward a steep uphill climb to Larkya La Pass. This climb will test your endurance and stamina, as it is it most challenging section of the entire trek. Keep your spirit high, and walk at a comfortable pace.

At Larkya La Pass, enjoy panoramas of Himlung Himal, Choe Himal, Kang Karu, and Annapurna II before descending. Relish the beautiful sight before beginning your downhill journey to Bhintang.

The trail to Bhintang is more relaxing. You will pass through stunning landscapes before reaching Bhintang, where you will spend the night.

The Tilije hike takes you further to a lower altitude. You will journey across the grasslands and Dudh Khola. On today’s trek, you will enter a dense forest surrounded by rhododendrons, oak, and pine trees as you continue toward Gho Village.

The trek to Tilije takes 5 to 6 hours. After reaching Tilije, you can prepare for your teahouse life in Tilije.

Your journey to Dharapani takes you across Tal, a charming village known for its beautiful waterfall. You will continue through rugged ridges and stone pathways. Along the way, you will find Manaslu Buddhist monasteries before reaching Thonje.

From Thonje, you will head to Dharapani, where you will spend the final night in the lap of the Himalayas.

*Note: If you want to go further, you can continue your trek after lunch at Dharapani. The guide will arrange for a local jeep that takes you to Besi Sahar, where you will spend the night. This makes the bus journey from Besi Sahar to Kathmandu shorter and makes the trek shorter. Dharapani to Besisahar is approximately a 4-hour drive.

You have come to the end of your 14-day Manaslu Circuit Trek. You will head back to the bustling capital of the country. Begin the day with your usual breakfast, then head to Besi Sahar. From Besi Sahar, you will change buses to Kathmandu or Pokhara. If you wish to extend your trip in Nepal with Global Adventure Trekking (GAT), you can join in for the Chitwan National Park Jungle Safari Tour to explore natural beauty after your Himalayan journey.

Essential Information

Nepal Manaslu Trek Updates (2026 and 2027)

Here are the latest Manaslu Circuit Trek updates for this year. The following updates contain permit fees and trail regulations:

Permit Fee Updates (2026 and 2027)

  • Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP):
September to November: USD 100 for 7 days with an additional USD 15 surcharge per person per day for each additional day.
December to August: USD 75 for 7 days and an extra USD 10 daily surcharge for each additional day.
  • Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) Permit: NPR 3000 (approximately USD 25) per person
  • Manaslu Conservation Area Permit Fee: NPR 3000 (USD 25) per person
  • Tsum Numbri Municipality local permit fee: NPR 1000 (USD 8)

Note: The 2026 and 2027 Manaslu restricted permits are designed to protect the fragile ecosystem of Tsum Valley. Unlike an ACAP permit, this type of permit requires guide documentation. Global Adventure Trekking handles all paperwork for your Nubri Valley entry.

How to Get Your Nepal Manaslu Trek Permits (Step by Step):

  • Book through a registered Nepal trekking agency (compulsory).
  • Provide your passport copy and passport photos to your agency
  • Your agency applies for the Restricted Area Permit (RAP), MCAP, ACAP, and Tsum Numbri Municipality Local Permit on your behalf
  • Permits are typically processed within 1 to 2 working days in Kathmandu.
  • Carry all original permits throughout the trek; checkpoints at Jagat and Samagaon will verify them

Global Adventure Trekking (GAT) handles all permit paperwork for you. Save your date for a remote teahouse trek to Manaslu today!

New Trail Regulations

  • Manaslu Solo Trekking Rules: As per the latest Nepal government regulations, trekkers on the Manaslu Circuit are not allowed to continue beyond Jagat without a licensed trekking guide. Although solo travelers can now apply individually for restricted area permits, all trekkers must still book through a registered trekking agency and trek with a government-licensed guide for safety and permit compliance.
  • Drone: Drone use requires valid permits from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and the Ministry of Home Affairs. The price varies depending on the drone’s weight and the purpose of the flight.

Best Time for the Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu Circuit Trek in spring is the best season, offering you stable weather, clear mountain views, and comfortable trekking trails. You can witness blooming rhododendron forests and milder temperatures. During spring, you will also get crystal-clear views of Himalchuli and Ngadi Chuli.

The autumn Manaslu Circuit trek in Nepal is known for crisp skies and excellent visibility throughout the Himalayas. However, you should prepare for the cold nights, especially in the higher altitudes.

The monsoon season is generally not recommended for trekking in Nepal due to heavy rainfall, slippery trails, landslides, and limited mountain views. Similarly, winter trekking in the Manaslu Circuit is possible but a bit more challenging than usual because of heavy snowfall and freezing-cold temperatures around Larya La Pass. So it’s the best Himalayan trek in Nepal if you’re fully experienced or prepared.

Manaslu Trek Accommodation: Himalayan Trek in Nepal

Accommodation during the Himalayan trek to Manaslu, the best trek in Nepal, is mainly in traditional teahouses and mountain lodges along the trail. The rooms are standard, simple, clean, and comfortable, usually featuring twin-sharing beds, blankets, and basic furniture. Most teahouses have shared bathrooms, although attached bathroom facilities may be available in selected villages such as Samagaon, Namrung, or Bhimtang, depending on availability. We always tried to provide you with the attached bathroom accommodation. Most offer hot showers for an additional cost of around USD 2 to USD 5.

Note: Book early. Pre-booking to get your preferred accommodation and also get better rooms with attached bathroom facilities.

The remote teahouses in the Manaslu region provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere, allowing trekkers to experience authentic Himalayan hospitality. While accommodation in this region is more basic than popular trekking routes like Everest or Annapurna, the peaceful mountain setting and local experience make the stay unimaginable.

Extra Facilities

  • Electricity and Charging: Electricity is available throughout the trek. Most accommodations in Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Lho Village, Sama Gaon, Samdo, Bhimtang, and Dharapani have electric plugs in the room. However, in other destinations, you will use the power sockets in the dining area to charge your electronic devices. Charging your devices may cost extra bucks.
  • WiFi and Mobile Network: WiFi and mobile network facilities are available on the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal. However, the speed may be compromised. Your teahouse may have a fast internet connection, which may cost between USD 2 and USD 3.
  • SIM Card and Connectivity: Nepal Telecom (NTC) generally provides better coverage in the Manaslu region compared to Ncell, especially in upper areas such as Samagaon and Samdo. Buying a local SIM card in Kathmandu before the trek is highly recommended for communication and internet access during the Manaslu journey.

Food and Nutrition on the Manaslu Route

You can find a mix of diverse cuisines during the off-the-beaten-path Manaslu route. All teahouses, lodges, and rest stops serve the staple Nepali meal, dal bhat (rice, lentil soup, vegetables, and pickle), along with a variety of Tibetan and basic continental meals.

You can also find noodles, fried rice, pasta, soups, momos, Tibetan bread, porridge, pancakes, eggs, boiled potato dishes, and seasonal vegetables. In lower regions, some teahouses may also offer pizza, sandwiches, or bakery items. As you gain altitude, food menu options become more limited due to transportation challenges in remote mountain areas.

Vegetarian meals are widely available, and locally grown seasonal vegetables are available; we (GAT) recommend vegetarian dishes at higher elevations for better digestion during the trek.

Some establishments even have a designated menu. For special food requests, you can consult with a Global Adventure Trekking (GAT) representative. We will make the necessary arrangements. As altitude increases, food supplies become more difficult to obtain, and the choices become increasingly limited and expensive due to lack of food and meat supplies. Trekkers should ensure that they stay hydrated and consume high-energy meals, as appetite can reduce in the colder, high-altitude conditions. GAT suggests you eat plant-based and local, freshly made meals to stay energetic and fulfilled during the trek.

Drinking Water During the Manaslu Region Trek in Nepal

Drinking water is available throughout the Manaslu Region Trek in Nepal. Along the way, teahouses offer refills or sell bottled and filtered water. We do not encourage purchasing bottled water, as it could harm the environment. We are strongly concerned about it. Keep the environment clean.

To ensure a sustainable trek, you can carry a personal bottle and filter water using filtration tablets. Alternatively, you can ask for boiled water at your teahouse, and it is highly recommended that all water be treated or purified before drinking. This may come at a small cost, generally between USD 1 and USD 3 per liter depending on the altitude. As you go higher, you may see the price increase due to limited resources and transportation costs.

Some of the lower villages have bottled mineral water, but as you gain altitude, it is more costly and less environmentally friendly. This is why many trekkers will use water purification tablets, portable filters, or UV sterilizers to treat tap or spring water.

Villages such as Samagaon and other settlements along the trail have natural water sources in the form of streams and taps, but this water should never be consumed untreated.

It is very important to drink plenty of fluids, especially when crossing high passes such as the Larkya La Pass. To help prevent altitude sickness and keep your energy up in the cold, dry mountain air, drink regularly throughout the day.

Manslu Circuit Trek Difficulty

The Manaslu Circuit Trek passes through high-altitude passes and remote trails and experiences various weather conditions. Unlike the Annapurna Circuit, Manaslu’s Larkya La Pass (5106 meters) demands proper acclimatization days. You also need cold-weather gear and equipment to face frigid conditions.

On average, trekkers require 5-6 hours daily of hiking over rocky moraines, suspension bridges, and rugged Himalayan terrain. Our government-certified guides ensure your safety by checking your oxygen levels and guiding you through the Manaslu Circuit and Larkya La Pass Trekking at a steady but comfortable pace to prevent altitude sickness (AMS).

However, if you are physically fit and have experience with trekking, the Manaslu Trek in Nepal will be a perfect adventure for you. Beginners with good stamina and high morale can also participate in this trek with Global Adventure Trekking. Our expert guides will take you through the trails, ensuring a safe and memorable trek.

Conquer the Manaslu Circuit with the utmost safety. Book your trek with Global Adventure Trekking.

Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal: Altitude Sickness and Precautions

The Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal reaches a maximum altitude of 5,106 m (16,752 ft) at Larkya La Pass. As with any high-altitude trek, there is a risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS), particularly above 3,500 meters.

To reduce the risk, trekkers should maintain a steady pace, stay well hydrated, eat nutritious meals, get adequate rest, and avoid alcohol throughout the trek. Our itinerary includes a dedicated acclimatization day in Samagaon to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude.

Most mild altitude-related symptoms can be managed with rest, hydration, and medication such as Diamox (acetazolamide). In more serious cases, immediate descent or emergency helicopter evacuation may be necessary.
