Short Manaslu Trek - 8 Days Itinerary

The 8-day Short Manaslu Trek begins with a scenic Jeep journey from Kathmandu. Early morning, a private jeep to Jagat will pick you up from your hotel in Thamel.

The journey from Kathmandu to Jagat is a 10-hour drive through beautiful villages and terraced farmlands over the spiral highway. You will traverse along several settlements and highway towns. The jeep ride also takes you across the Trishuli River from Malekhu. From here, you will reach the district headquarters of Dhading.

Continue on an uphill drive along the blacktopped roads until Salyantar. Now, prepare for the off-road sections. You will first reach Maccha Khola, the entry point to the Manaslu Region, and enjoy the adventurous road trip, relishing the sights of cascading waterfalls and farmlands alongside the Budhi Gandaki gorge. You will also find beautiful views of Tewa Hijmal, Lapuchen Shiringi Himal, and Lumbo Himal.

Today, you will begin the trek along the Manaslu trail. The route passes several charming villages and terraced farmlands through Salleri. Along the way, you will also find cascading waterfalls, rivers, and rocky ridges. Once you reach Salleri, you will follow the downhill trails to Sirdibas. This trek gives you breathtaking views of the Shiringi Himal. Continue further toward the wider section leading to Ghatte Khola.

From Ghatte Khola, you will trek toward Philim and reach Ekle Bhatti after crossing a suspension bridge. The final section of today’s trek takes you through the serene grassy slopes that lead you across the Budhi Gandaki River. Follow the serene trails of the roaring river, and cross the bamboo forest before finally reaching Deng.

Begin a brand new day with a hearty breakfast in your Deng teahouse. After breakfast, continue onward along the banks of the Budhi Gandaki River and take on the gradual ascent toward Rana Gaon. Now, navigate across the diverse terrain as you make your way to the west of Budhi Gandaki Valley, where you will find charming villages adorned with chortens, mani walls, and ever-fluttering prayer flags.

From the Budhi Gandaki Valley, you will trek to Ghap, a quaint village with rich Buddhist heritage. Continue your ascent, taking in the beautiful Shiringi Himal as you trek past Prok Village. Before reaching Namrung, you will ascend gradually as you cross the trail that passes through dense forests.

Today’s trek takes you to a high alpine altitude. As you leave Namrung, you will trek along the wide trails with beautiful views of Ganesh Himal, Shiringi Himal, Himalchuli, and other surrounding peaks. The trek includes gradual ascents through the Buddhist village of Lihi before descending toward the Simang Himal Valley. Continue your journey through charming villages, including Sho, Lho, and Shyala Villages. From Shyala Village vantage point, you can take in the magnificent views of Himalchuli, Manaslu, and Peak 29. Likewise, in Lho Village, you can visit the spiritual center of Ribung Gompa.

A short trek from Shyala Village takes you to Samagaon, where you will spend the night.

Compared to the rest of the trek, today’s journey is more leisurely but equally exciting. You will depart from Samagaun after breakfast and descend toward the Budhi Gandaki River. Continue your journey until you reach the wooden bridge over Dudh Koshi. You will cross the bridge and reach the Larkya Bazaar.

Continue your ascent from Larkya Bazaar across mani walls and prayer flags, getting closer to the Larkya Glacier. As you approach the Larkya Glacier, you will trek toward the ridge of the Salkha Khola Valley and reach the stone-built teahouse at Dharmashala.

You will rest at Dharmashala before conquering the Larkya La Pass. As you have sufficient time in hand, enjoy the beautiful close-up views of Mount Manaslu and Larkya Glacier.

After a leisurely day, you will face the challenges that lie ahead on today’s journey. Today’s adventures take you across the high and challenging passes in the Manaslu region, including the Larkya La Pass.

The day begins with a descent to the small lake toward the base camp of Larkya La Pass. You will trek past the frozen lakes and begin the steep ascent. This is the most challenging section of the entire trek. However, upon conquering the pass, you will find rewarding views of Cheo Himal, Kang Garu Himal, Himlung Himal, Annapurna, Himalchuli, and Ganesh Himal.

Take in the magnificent views before beginning your descent from the west end of the Larkya La Pass. As you trek toward Bhimtang, you will pass through grassy moraine and find beautiful mani walls and several Buddhist artifacts.

After the successful ascent of the Larkya La Pass, you will find a more relaxing trek on the final day trekking day of the Short Manaslu Trek. The day begins with breakfast, after which you will follow the high pasture trails that lead you to the Dudh Khola basin. Cross the Dudh Khola Suspension Bridge and hike across the dense rhododendron and oak forest as you journey toward Dharapani. The trek takes you along charming villages like Karche, Gho, Tilje, and Thonge before finally reaching your destination.

Celebrate the successful Short Manaslu Trek in the Himalayan village of Dharapani, as you will be leaving for Kathmandu the following day.

You have now come to the end of the Short Manaslu Trek. To end the trek, you will board the private jeep and follow the adventurous roads alongside the Marshyangdi River. Enjoy the scenic drive in the Annapurna region, across villages like Bhulbule, Mhude, and Besi Sahar.

You will stop for lunch in Besi Sahar and continue along the Prithivi Highway to Kathmandu.

Drinking Water During the Short Manaslu Trek in Nepal

Teahouses and rest stops sell bottled water and offer refills. Ensure the refilled water is filtered to avoid an upset stomach. Bottled water is generally safe for consumption, but we do not encourage the purchase of such water, as it could harm the environment and the local ecosystem.

To ensure a sustainable trek, you can carry a personal bottle and filter water using filtration tablets. Alternatively, you can ask for boiled water at your teahouse. This may come at a small cost.

Short Manaslu Trek and Larkya La Pass Trek Difficulty
