After a hearty breakfast in Chame, the trail follows a peaceful path through lush green pine forests, with the sound of the Marsyangdi River flowing beside you. Passing through Talekhu and continuing toward Bhratang, the route gradually narrows into a beautiful valley. As you move deeper, you’ll reach the iconic Paungda Danda rock face, a massive curved cliff rising nearly 1,500 meters above the river, offering one of the most striking landscapes of the region. Crossing the Swargadwari suspension bridge, you begin a gentle ascent as the scenery opens up.

The final stretch to Upper Pisang involves a steady but rewarding climb with the snow-glowing views of the Annapurna range and the valley below. Upon arrival in Upper Pisang, you’ll be welcomed by traditional stone houses, prayer flags fluttering in the wind, and an ancient monastery that reflects the rich Himalayan culture, marking a perfect end to your first trekking day.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Upper Pisang-Maikyu Tal-Ghyaru-Ngawal

Today’s detailed luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek route follows the splendid high route with a rewarding alternative to the lower, dusty road. After a delicious and fulfilling breakfast in Upper Pisang, the trail begins with a steep ascent toward Ghyaru (3,670 m). This climb is challenging but offers uninterrupted views of the Marsyangdi Valley and the nearby peaks, including Dhaulagiri (8,167 m), Machhapuchre (Fishtail) (6,993 m), Mount Manaslu (8,163 m), Gangapurna (7,455 m), Tilicho Peak (7,134 m), and Pisang Peak (6,091 m).

Along the route, you’ll pass Maikyu Tal, a convenient and safe drinking water station, perfect for refilling bottles and staying hydrated at high altitude. After reaching Ghyaru, a picturesque Tibetan-style village with an ancient monastery, mani walls, and traditional stone houses, the trail transitions into a gentle high-altitude traverse. The route winds through dry juniper landscapes and prayer-flag-lined paths before arriving at Ngawal, a tranquil village perched above the valley. Ngawal provides mesmerizing sunset views, a peaceful atmosphere, and an ideal spot for the trek itinerary with comfort and acclimatization before heading toward Manang.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Ngawal-Julu-Mugie-Braga-Manang

Leaving the peaceful high village of Ngawal, today’s trek is relatively gentle and joyful, with a slow descent toward the main valley floor. The trail winds through open, silent landscapes dotted with juniper bushes and dry, rocky terrain, offering a fresh perspective of the Annapurna range. As you cross along this scenic high route, you’ll encounter small settlements like Julu and Mugie (also known as Munji/Mungi), calm hamlets that reflect the traditional lifestyle of the Manang region.

Continuing onwards, the trail leads to the culturally rich village of Braga (Braka), perched beautifully on a hillside. Here, you can visit the ancient monasteries Bhraka Gompa and Bojo Gompa, one of the oldest in the Annapurna region, which is filled with historic statues and intricate thangka paintings. From Braga, it’s a short and easy walk to Manang, a vibrant Himalayan town and key acclimatization hub. The detailed route from Kathmandu to Manang is a mix of traditional culture and modern comforts like bakeries and cafes. Manang offers the perfect place to rest, explore, and prepare for the higher elevations ahead.

To help your body properly adjust to the increasing altitude, today is set aside for acclimatization in Manang. Rather than complete rest, it’s best to stay active with light hikes around the area, which at the same time offer eye-pleasing views of the snowy glacier, peaceful valleys, and towering summits. This day plays a key role in preparing you for the higher elevations ahead, including Thorong La Pass.

Extension Trip Options

Option 1: Gangapurna Lake

A gentle and satisfying hike takes you to the dreamy Gangapurna Lake, located just above Manang. This trip is just a 1.5 to 3-hour excursion, perfect for all trekkers, offering unforgettable views of the glaciers, calm scenes, and a wonderful introduction to higher-altitude walking without overexertion.

Option 2: Ice Lake/Kicho Tal

The trek to Ice Lake (Kicho Lake) is a wonderful option for those looking for a more daring acclimatization hike. Amazing vantage points of the Annapurna range and surrounding peaks await strong hikers during this five-to-seven-hour round-trip ascent to roughly 4,600 meters. It’s a rigorous but incredibly fulfilling activity that also helps in acclimatization for the coming days.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Manang-Tenki-Ghusang-Yak Kharka

Today’s trail gradually climbs out of the main valley as you embark on your ACT journey toward the challenging Thorong La Pass by leaving Manang. The route passes through the small settlement of Tenki before leading toward Ghusang (3,900 m), highlighting a quieter road, and the road-free trekking experience. As you walk by, the landscape transforms from lush greenery into dry alpine terrain with juniper bushes and wide yak grazing pastures. After crossing the Ghyanchang Khola, you officially enter the remote and rugged high-altitude section of the trek.

As you leave the Marsyangdi Valley behind and follow the trail into the Jarsang Khola Valley, the path becomes relatively gentle but demanding as well. You may start to feel the thinner air, so maintaining a slow and steady pace is essential. Across the route, you’ll arrive at Yak Kharka by afternoon, a tiny and raw settlement surrounded by alpine pastures, where you’ll rest and prepare for the higher-elevation Thorong La Pass.

Note (Optional Extension to Tilicho Lake): If you wish to extend your journey with the optional hike up to Tilicho Lake, it may take an extra 3 days or more in your itinerary. If you have extra energy or budget, start your journey early in the morning from Manang to visit Tilicho Lake (4,919 m), one of the highest lakes in the world. This side trip takes you through rugged high-altitude terrain via Khangsar and Tilicho Base Camp Trek and presents you with breathless alpine scenes and a truly off-the-beaten-path experience. It’s a perfect add-on option for trekkers who wish to explore beyond the main Annapurna Circuit while enhancing acclimatization and adventure.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Yak Kharka-Ledar-Kone Khola-Thorong Phedi

Today is the ninth day of the trek, which is shorter but crucial for proper acclimatization as you move closer to the base of the Thorong La Pass. The Yak Kharka trail leaves behind and slowly ascends toward Ledar (Churi Ledar), following the rugged high-altitude landscape of the Jarsang Khola Valley. You continue along the eastern bank before crossing near the Kone Khola from Ledar, entering a more dramatic section of the trail. This part involves a narrow, rocky path across a steep slope that is prone to landslides, so it’s important to walk carefully and stay alert.

After navigating this exposed section, the trail leads you to Thorong Phedi, a small settlement located at the base of the Thorong La Pass. This is your final stop before the big crossing, surrounded by high cliffs and barren alpine terrain. Upon arrival, you can check into your comfortable teahouse and take time to rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the changing day ahead.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Thorong Phedi-High Camp-Thorong La Pass (5,416 m)-Thorong Khola-Suspension Bridge-Muktinath

Today is the most challenging and gratifying day of the entire Annapurna Circuit. You will begin your journey early in the morning, around 4 am, leaving Thorrong Phedi in the cold pre-dawn hours with the help of headlamps. The Throng La trail ascends steadily through rugged, high-altitude terrain, and depending on your pace, you may pass High Camp before continuing the journey. The climb requires patience, careful footing, and a slow, steady rhythm due to the cool and thin air.

Reaching Thorong La Pass (5,416 m) is a truly incomparable moment. The sunrise delivers outstanding 360-degree views of the grand Himalayan panoramas and boundless landscapes. After spending some time at the top, the trail begins a long and steep descent toward Muktinath. Along the route, you’ll pass sections near the Thorong Khola and cross a suspension bridge as the terrain slowly changes from alpine wilderness to the arid Mustang region.

After arriving at Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, you can visit the temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and explore the spiritual atmosphere. This marks the successful crossing of the Thorong La Pass (one of the highest trekking passes in the world). Overnight stay at Muktinath.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Muktinath-Ranipauwa-Lubra (Bonpa Gompa)-Kali Gandaki Valley-Kagbeni-Jomsom

Embark on your journey with a wonderful breakfast at your teahouse in Muktinath, followed by a visit to the sacred Muktinath Temple, where you can witness the eternal flame and explore the temple’s pleasant surroundings. Your trek begins from here with a gentle descent toward the Kali Gandaki Valley, passing through Ranipauwa, a small settlement offering a glimpse into traditional Mustang life.

Instead of heading directly to Kagbeni, you will take a scenic detour to Lubra, one of the villages preserving the ancient Bon religion. Explore the Bon Gompa, a unique monastery reflecting the village’s spiritual heritage. You can continue from Lubra toward Kagbeni, a medieval walled village with narrow alleyways and earthen-walled houses. The final stretch follows the riverbed of the Kali Gandaki, bringing you to Jomsom.

Note: You can add an exciting scenic helicopter flight from Muktinath to Kathmandu or Pokhara to elevate your Annapurna journey with an additional cost.

Luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek Route: Jomsom, Flying Over Kali Gandaki Gorge, Pokhara

After breakfast in Jomsom with clear mountain weather, you’ll take a short scenic flight to Pokhara, offering brilliant aerial views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, as well as the deep Kali Gandaki Gorge and the Mustang region’s surroundings. This flight offers relaxation, skipping the long dusty roads, and making your journey more comfortable and premium.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, you’ll transfer to the luxury hotel near Phewa Lake, where you can unwind, stroll around, or enjoy a boat ride. This short flight not only saves time but also provides an effortless transition from high-altitude trekking to a serene valley environment.

Optional Extension: Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek via Tatopani (Hot Springs)

If you have extra days, you can extend your journey from Jomsom to Tatopani for a pleasant soak in the natural hot springs, then continue to the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek. Wake early for a short hike to Poon Hill for the best sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. This extension blends comfort, iconic scenery, and gentle hiking for a memorable addition to your Annapurna Circuit experience.

Today is the final day of your journey with a scenic aerial flyover from Pokhara back to Kathmandu. This quick scenic flight takes you through the Himalayas and Phewa Lake, including lush valleys above the clouds.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your lavish hotel near Thamel for rest, leisure, or last-minute shopping. This flight ensures a smooth and comfortable transition from the serene Pokhara Valley to the bustling capital, keeping your luxury trekking experience hassle-free.

Note: Travelers can choose to extend their trip with a 2-day, 3-night visit to Chitwan National Park, offering a chance to experience jungle safaris, wildlife spotting, and the rich Terai culture, adding a different adventure to their Nepal journey.

Today is the final day of your Annapurna Circuit Luxury Trek in Nepal. After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for your onward flight. Take with you unforgettable memories of the Himalayan peaks, traditional villages, and cultural experiences you enjoyed along the trek. Whether heading home or continuing your travels in Nepal, the final day provides a seamless, stress-free departure, rounding off your premium Himalayan adventure.

If you want to spend more time in Nepal, you can join a one-day helicopter adventure to Annapurna Base Camp or Everest Base Camp for a wonderful journey.

Best Time and Season for Nepal’s High Altitude Trek: Private Annapurna Circuit Trek

Spring (March, April, and May): You can expect mild temperatures and clear skies. The blooming rhododendrons welcome the day on the dry trail. In this season visibility is excellent for trekking. These months (March, April, and May) are considered the best time for trekking in Nepal.

Autumn (September, October, and November): Autumn is another peak trekking season in Nepal. It’s also a festive time in Nepal, adding a cultural touch to your Annapurna Circuit private trek journey. Nepalese people love to celebrate festivals like Dashain and Tihar. In the autumn trek (September, October, and November), the weather is stable, and it is easy to trek around the Annapurna Circuit route.

Winter (December, January, and February): Winter trekking in Nepal for the Annapurna Circuit Trek is a challenging, remote trek. In the winter season, snowfall may disrupt the trails, and the shivering cold can be demanding for trekkers in higher elevations like Thorong La Pass. This time is not suitable for trekking in Nepal, but it may be possible for experienced trekkers with proper preparation.

Monsoon (June, July, and August): The monsoon season usually brings heavy rain and the chances of landslides. The slippery terrain due to the rain is not recommended for the trek in Nepal. But after the rain ends, the trail becomes most amazing and appealing in the Annapurna region.

Thorong La Pass/Around Annapurna Luxury Trek: Altitude and Difficulty Explained

The Thorong La Pass Trek is regarded as extremely rewarding despite being rather difficult. There are portions of high altitude, some steep climbs, and gentle ascents along the trail, particularly as you get closer to the famous Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). Even experienced trekkers may find some days more difficult due to altitude and shifting weather.

Still, this luxury version of the Annapurna journey strikes a mix between comfort and adventure. This remote trip to the Annapurna Circuit is made easier and more pleasurable by well-planned itineraries, enough acclimatization, and upscale lodgings with cozy beds, hot showers, and delicious meals.

Prevention Tips:

It is crucial to gradually acclimatize, stay hydrated, pace yourself, and recognize the early signs of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) to prevent altitude sickness and guarantee a safe luxury Annapurna Circuit Trek, especially in Thorong La Pass (5,416 m). To give your body time to acclimatize to the high altitude, plan acclimatization days into your trekking schedule, stay hydrated, resist alcohol and smoking, sleep properly, climb carefully, and eat carbohydrate-rich meals such as dal bhat, soups, and other high-calorie foods to support energy levels.

If you experience any of the symptoms of AMS, such as headache, nausea, or dizziness, be ready to rest or descend. Anyone can safely enjoy the Annapurna Circuit and successfully cross Thorong La Pass with the right preparation, which includes being physically fit and having high-quality trekking equipment.

Rich Annapurna Region Foods and Dining Experience

The cuisine on the rich trek is both satisfying and diverse, featuring everything from traditional Nepali to foreign dishes. A daily highlight is Dal Bhat, a nutritious combination of rice, lentils, veggies, and pickles that provides the energy needed for long trekking days. You’ll also find favourites like momo, along with options such as pasta, noodles, soups, eggs, pancakes, and fresh bread in many lodges. All the meals are freshly prepared, and menus are designed to keep trekkers well-fuelled, although choices may become simpler at higher elevations due to limited access.

Drinking Water and Hydration Tips during the High-Elevation Trek to Annapurna

Staying hydrated is essential throughout the high-altitude trek, most importantly as you gain altitude. Safe drinking water is widely available throughout the trek route; your luxury lodges provide you with boiled or filtered water, and the cost is included in the Annapurna Circuit Luxury Trek Package. You’ll come across designated water refill points and safe drinking water stations in several villages, which help reduce plastic waste while ensuring access to clean water. Bottled water is available in lower regions, but it becomes more expensive and less environmentally friendly as you go higher.

To stay safe and prepared, it’s highly recommended to carry a reusable water bottle and use purification methods such as tablets, filters, or UV purifiers when necessary. Drinking around three to four liters of water daily helps with acclimatization and reduces the risk of altitude-related issues.

Luxury Accommodation and Comfort Level on the High-Class Annapurna Circuit Journey

Accommodation on the high-class trek is curated to offer a higher level of comfort while still preserving the authentic Himalayan experience. Along the way, you’ll stay in carefully selected luxury lodges and upgraded teahouses that provide clean, spacious rooms, often with attached bathrooms in lower regions. As you cross through traditional villages and reach higher elevations like Manang, the standard may become simpler due to remoteness, but the lodges remain comfortable, well-maintained, and known for their warm hospitality. The journey also indicates a rich cultural transition, from the Gurung communities of the lower hills to Tibetan-Buddhist-influenced settlements in the high alpine regions.

Wi-Fi and Mobile Network Facilities in the Annapurna Himalayas

In terms of facilities, luxury trekking ensures added convenience throughout the Annapurna journey. Most of our selected lodges offer reliable electricity and charging facilities for USD 2 to USD 5, though higher-altitude areas often depend on solar power. Wi-Fi is available in many places, especially in lower and mid-altitude regions, but connectivity may become limited as you approach Thorong La Pass.

Note: The cost for charging is not applicable for travellers due to inclusion in this package.

Hot Showers

Generally, hot showers are powered by gas or solar systems. This premium Annapurna Circuit expedition allows you to enjoy hot showers for free, providing much-needed comfort after long days of walking, albeit at an additional cost.

The Global Adventure Trekking (GAT) team provides fully trained guides and porters to ensure your exclusive ACT journey is safe, seamless, and enjoyable. Importance and Requirements of Travel Insurance for Circuit Annapurna Trekking

Why Travel Insurance Matters:

  • It covers emergency helicopter evacuation in case of altitude sickness or accidents.
  • Insurance provides financial support for medical treatment and hospitalization.
  • Travel insurance protects against trip delays, cancellations, or interruptions.
