  • This is a great chance to complete the world-famous Annapurna circuit and Tilicho Lake at once.
  • The stunning views of Mt Manaslu (8,163 m/26,774 ft.), Annapurna 1st (8,091 m/26,538 ft.), Annapurna II and IV
  • A wonderful Jeep ride to Chame with beautiful waterfalls and diverse landscapes

Tilicho Lake Trek begins through charming Marsyangdi Valley and rises to Manang Valley. The Tilicho Lake Trek is the objective of one of the most well-known side trips of the Annapurna Circuit Trek. Tilicho Lake journey requires around 3 days from Manang town. The Tilicho Lake trek's good aspect is combining it with the world-famous Annapurna Circuit Trek. Trek to Throngla Top and descend to Muktinath, where you can experience a different environment. There you have another great opportunity to join the last forbidden kingdom of Upper Mustang Trek from Muktinath.

For the elective course to cross from the lake, it is feasible to go to Mesokanta Pass to Thini or Jomsom from Tilicho Lake. It is necessary to prepare a tented camp trek because between Tilicho and Thini, there is no guest house en route, and most of the travelers face altitude difficulties in this pass. If you are setting up the camp journey for 2–3 evenings to remain in the rose camp, then it is feasible to go on. After visiting Tilicho Lake, return to Manang, jeep to Beshisahar and take a bus to Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Tilicho Lake trek Cost and itinerary

Tilicho Lake is a jewel of the Annapurna circuit and catches the mesmerizing view of Tilicho Lake and Manang Valley. The cost of the trek depends on the number of people, services that you are looking for, the experience level of the guide, and many more. We offer the Tilicho Lake standard package at a reasonable price and our itinerary is carefully built by our experts, who have great knowledge and experience on it.

Tilicho Lake Trek Route

A trip to Tilicho Lake starts from Kathmandu with a bus to Beshisahar. From Beshisahar take a local jeep drive to Chame, which is the district headquarters of Manang District. Follow the Annapurna Circuit Trek trail until Manang, then follow the dots walking path to the lake. The Tilicho is fully covered with snow in the month of winter, but Spring (March to May), Summer (June to August), and Autumn (September to November) are the best seasons to visit. Remember, there is almost little to no rain above 3,200 m/10,496 ft. in Nepal. So, trekking and hiking are always possible in Nepal. There is a high possibility of getting altitude sickness from Manang and above.

Guide and Porter for Trekking in Nepal

As per the new rules of the Nepali government, every trekker should take either a guide or a porter while trekking. A professional Guide has more knowledge about altitude, mountains, people, culture, and vegetation, is trained from different institutions, and speaks good level English. A porter is a carrier, he is honest, kind, and strong enough to carry your bag. A porter carries a maximum of 20/25 kg. Porters are poor in English and cannot speak a good level of  English and handle emergencies. We have another person between a Guide and Porter, Porter-Guide, who is aiming to become a full-fledged guide. ACAP-Annapurna Conservation Area Entry Permit and TIMS permit are required to go to Tilicho Lake trekking. Your local travel partner, Global Adventure Trekking, issues all the necessary permits and fees.

Itinerary

As the Tilicho Lake Trek journey starts from Kathmandu, we take a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar on a tourist bus. It takes about 6 hours for the bus to reach Besisahar as we need to cover a total distance of 176 kilometers (109.30 miles). Starting from Kathmandu, we need to pass through several hills, valleys, streams, cities, towns, and villages. We follow the same route that connects Kathmandu with Pokhara leading to many trekking destinations like the Annapurna Circuit Trek, Manaslu Circuit Trek, and many more.

In Besisahar, we take a short break and have lunch before continuing another part of today's journey. After a quick break and tummy-fulfilling lunch, we take another drive from Besisahar to Chamje, but this time, we take a private jeep. It takes us another 4 to 5 hours to reach Chame from Besisahar. The distance between Besisahar to Chame is about 67 kilometers or 41.61 miles. As you reach Chame, we will take you to the hotel. After that, you can get yourself freshened up and then stroll around the village as well.

Moreover, we also recommend the trekkers to interact with the locals. The beautiful nature and the warm hospitality offered by the locals will certainly make you feel fresh and peaceful.

On the second day, we go for a pretty serious trekking. It's not a long one but it is still challenging as it's the first day of trekking. Immediately after you have your breakfast in the hotel, the guests lead you on a path that crosses a river and continues towards Bhratang. Here, you can find a large apple farm and bakery so, just grab some apple and bakery items as quickly as possible. A little more to walk and we reach Dhukure Pokhari, the stop for lunch.

After having lunch, the trekkers will have to walk for a few more hours. Along the route, we can get the most amazing views of the different Himalayas, traditional settlements, and exquisite views of the surrounding environment. As you reach Upper Pisang, the trekkers get to experience a stay in one of the traditional and typical old-style villages in the Annapurna region. Moreover, this village also has a 250 year old Gompa along with several other newer Gompas.

Every day in the Tilicho Lake Trek offers new adventures and amazing experiences and on the same verge, we ascend from upper Pisang to Nawal on the third day. We start the walk as soon as the trekkers have their breakfast and take a quick rest. Once we start the walk, we will pass through several settlements, rivers, streams, waterfalls, and so much more that nature has to offer. Moreover, the spectacular views of the mighty Himalayas also keep encouraging from a distance.

It takes us about 5 hours to complete this section of the 10 Day Tilicho Lake Trek even though the altitude difference will just be about 400 meters. The trekkers will certainly enjoy ascending on this section of the trail because this will be a little more complicated than the previous two days.

Overnight stay and dinner will be arranged by the Global Adventure Trekking team in Nawal.

Even though we are ascending on the 10 Day Tilicho Lake Trekking journey, we will go for a short descent on the fourth day. It's the day to leave Nawal and reach Manang, one of the most beautiful towns in the entire Annapurna trekking region. We begin the journey after having a fulfilling breakfast. For the first part, we will reach Humde and then Braka before finally stepping into Manang.

On your way to Manang from Nawal (aka Ngawal), you will always be surrounded by the magnificent views of different mountains that sit above the clouds. Other than that, a few grassy areas, smaller traditional settlements, and forests accompany you through the journey. It takes us about 4 to 5 hours to cover a total distance of 10 kilometers. This section of the 10 Day Tilicho Lake Trek takes us to an altitude of 3540 meters above sea level.

On the fifth day, we will not ascend any further. Instead, the trekkers will stay back in Manang itself for a rest or in the trekking term, we call it acclimatization process. Acclimatization day is a day separated from any high-altitude trek to make it easy for the trekkers to adapt to the temperature and climatic change. Moreover, you also get chances to explore the surrounding areas without taking leap.

Manang certainly is one of the most beautiful towns sitting in the lap of the Himalayas. Waking up to this beautiful town offers one of the most scenic views of the surrounding environment. Take your time to enjoy a delicious breakfast before exploring the beauty of Manang's settlements. To help you adapt to the temperature and climate, our guides will lead you on a day hike to the nearby viewpoint. Remember that being in Manang means that we are already at an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level.

Due to that reason, the trekkers certainly need to rest for acclimatization purposes and also to live in the serenity of Manang.

Finally, it's the day to ascend to the Tilicho Base Camp. Also, let us tell you that, we are only one day far from experiencing the serenity of the highest freshwater lake, Tilicho Lake. Today, the guides will take you on one of the most adventurous and adrenaline-rushing part of the 10 Day Tilicho Lake Trekking journey. On our way from Manang to Tilicho Base Camp, the trekkers pass through several smaller settlements, waterfalls, streams, and rivers. Along with that, this portion of the trek also entertains the trekkers with a unique and unusual village named Khangsar. The unique stone-built houses and tradition and culture make it a perfect place to check out.

Tilicho Base Camp is located at an altitude of 4150 meters above sea level and is about 10 to 11 kilometers far from Manang. It takes about 5 to 6 hours for any average trekker to complete this section of the Tilicho Lake Trekking in the Annapurna Trekking region. You will certainly get very tired as you reach the base camp. Therefore, we recommend the trekkers go for a sound rest for the day.

On the seventh day, the trekkers will finally reach the most anticipated location of the entire trekking journey, the Tilicho Lake. The walk starts after trekkers have their breakfast in the hotel and prepare for an exciting trekking journey to the glacial lake located at an altitude of 4919 meters above the sea level. Remember that the distance between the base camp and the lake is just 6 kilometers but still the walk will be more complicated than any other day.

We recommend the trekkers keep a slow and steady pace while ascending from the Tilicho Base Camp because you need to conserve energy for the higher section. A cold temperature, rugged trail, and eye-soothing views of the Himalayas encourage you to reach Tilicho Lake. Take your time to stroll around the lake and believe us that the turquoise water of the lake surrounded by mighty peaks will offer you something very precious and special.

After spending some precious moments around the Tilicho Lake, the guides will lead you down towards Siri Kharka, our resting place for the seventh day. Another 3 to 4 hours of walk from the lake and we will reach Siri Kharka.

From Siri Kharka, we take a large leap directly to Manang. It takes about 4 to 5 hours for any average trekker to cover this section of the Tilicho Lake Trekking map. As usual, the journey starts after having breakfast in the hotel. Then, we slowly and gradually follow a rough and rugged trail that takes us to Manang. If you had not explored Manang properly during the earlier stay, we recommend you go for a quick and brief stroll around the town.

In addition to that, you shall also try out some fresh fruits, and handmade crafts, and indulge in the taste of local culinary prepared by the locals settled in Manang. Moreover, you can also visit different ancient monasteries and Gompa that have been standing for hundreds and thousands of years.

Overnight stay and dinner will be arranged by the Global Adventure Trekking team in a hotel or guesthouse in Pisang.

We are almost at the end of the 10-day Tilicho Lake Trekking package. As you wake up early in the morning and have breakfast, our guides will take you to a final walking section. We will go for a 14-kilometer descent from Pisang to Chame. Do you remember Chame? Yes, this is the same village from where we started the walking journey on the Tilicho Lake Trekking map.

Passing through several settlements, waterfalls, rivers, and wooden bridges, and interacting with many local people, we reach Chame within 6 hours of the journey. Go to the hotel, rest for a while and then you can explore the village for the last time.

Finally, it's the last day of the 10-day Tilicho Lake Trekking journey with Global Adventure Trekking. We hope that you loved the journey and fulfilled your dream in the most adventurous way. As this is the last day of this trekking package, we will be covering the entire journey via bus and jeep. Firstly, the guides will take you from Chame to Besisahar on a sharing jeep. It takes about 5 hours for the jeep to cover 80 kilometers and reach Besisahar.

In Besisahar, we will stop and have lunch. A little time to rest after lunch and then you will return to Kathmandu in a public bus. However, you can also choose to go to Pokhara. Regardless of the endpoint you choose, it takes about 6 hours for the bus to take you there. That's because both of these destinations are 176 kilometers far from Besisahar. As you reach either of these cities, we put an official end to the 10 Day Tilicho Lake Trek Package.
