Luxury Annapurna Base Camp Trek With Helicopter Return from Pokhara Itinerary

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek begins with a meeting with our expert team and a short briefing at the breakfast table. After that, we follow with an early morning drive from Pokhara to Tikhedhunga, driving through the available smooth route using the Pushpalal Highway road, taking around 1.5-2 hours by private tourist vehicle. Along the mountain roadway, you cross paths with the scenic sights of Phewa Lake, traditional roadside villages (Naudanda and Kande), terraced farmlands, green forests, Bhurungdi Khola, and bustling highway market towns. The journey treats you to occasional glimpses of the majestic Annapurna Range (Annapurna South 7,219 m), Dhaulagiri (8,167 m.) and Lamjung Himal (6,983 m).

From Tikhedhunga, prepare for a same-day hike to Ulleri (1-1.5 hours), a challenging but rewarding climb up 3,300+ stone steps carved into the mountainside. The iconic staircase trails through lush rhododendron forests and oak forests. You can find resting stops to catch your breath during the hike and take it as a warm-up for the next day’s trekking experience. Stay at Ulleri (1,960 m), a charming Magar village, with the company of Himalayan panoramas.

After breakfast at the Ulleri teahouse, walk uphill through a dense variety of rhododendrons and oak forests to the picturesque Magar village. The Ulleri trekking trail is gradual, passing through calm forest paths, tranquil streams, and small settlements such as Banthanti and Nangethanti.  Here you can have a short break and lunch along the way. As you gain altitude, the air becomes fresher and cooler and the surroundings more peaceful, with chances to spot local wildlife.

The Ghorepani trek takes around 5-6 hours, covering approximately 14 km, and reaches a maximum altitude of 2,800 meters at Ghorepani. Upon arrival, you will settle in the teahouse or lodge of Ghorepani, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest early in preparation for the early morning hike to Poon Hill for amazing sunrise views.

Today starts with a pre-dawn hike from Ghorepani to Poon Hill, leading a well-maintained stone trail through forests. After about 45 minutes to 1 hour of climbing, you reach Poon Hill (3,210 m/10,531 ft), the highest point of the day, just in time for sunrise views over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges.

After spending time enjoying the panoramic views of the Himalayas and the deepest Kaligandaki gorges, you have a chance to snap photos/videos, and you descend back to the hotel for breakfast. The trek continues toward Chuile via Tadapani, leaving the busy Poon Hill route and entering quieter trails through forested ridges and small settlements. The journey is mostly gradual with a mix of ups and downs, offering a peaceful trekking experience.

After having lunch along the way, you arrive in Chuile (around 2020 m) by late afternoon, where you settle into a teahouse/lodge, enjoy a nourishing meal for dinner, and rest for the night after a rewarding day on the trail.

After breakfast in Chuile, you begin the trek toward Chhomrong, known as the gateway to the Annapurna Base Camp. The trail gradually descends through terraced fields and small villages before climbing into a forested valley, offering stunning views of Annapurna South (7,219 m) and sacred Machhapuchhre (6,993 m). Chhomrong is an important stop for trekkers, providing teahouses and a chance to rest before continuing deeper into the Annapurna region.

From Chhomrong, the trail continues on a downhill journey, crosses the small suspension bridge, then gradually ascends towards Sinuwa, a peaceful village tucked into rhododendron and oak forests, passing waterfalls and streams along the way. The trek to Sinuwa—you stay overnight at a comfortable local teahouse, enjoy a warm dinner, and rest for the night to prepare for the next day’s adventure to Bamboo and beyond.

Early morning breakfast in Sinuwa; the trek continues on a flat surface until Khuldi Ghar before descending to Bamboo.

Bamboo is a charming village located between massive boulders and forests. In Bamboo, have a short break for a quick lunch. Then you continue your trekking journey to the Himalaya Hotel. Overnight stay in the Himalaya Hotel.

Today is the major highlight of the trek. You will enjoy both iconic spots of Nepal, the Machhapuchhre Base Camp and the Annapurna Base Camp. Compared to the previous day, the walking distance of today’s hike is short. However, these are the most challenging sections and will test your endurance.

Once you reach the Annapurna Base Camp trek vantage point, you will get magnificent views of the Annapurna Range, including Annapurna I (8,091 m), Annapurna South (7,219 m), and Annapurna III (7,555 m). You can also enjoy the wonderful panorama of the surrounding Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Gandharva Chuli, Himchuli, and Tent Peak.

Tonight, you will sleep in a teahouse in the Annapurna Base Camp, in the middle of a natural amphitheater, surrounded by magnificent peaks.

After exploring and spending time at Annapurna Base Camp, your Annapurna Base Camp Heli Return Trek concludes with a scenic helicopter flight back to Pokhara, offering stunning close-up views of the Annapurna range, Machhapuchhre, glaciers, and dramatic high-altitude landscapes. This short yet unforgettable flight adds a true wow factor and serves as the perfect finale to the trek.

After landing in Pokhara, the journey officially comes to an end, allowing time to relax and reflect on the experience of sharing moments of completing the ABC Trek journey. For the next travel, you can extend your stay and add on another adventure trip to Chitwan National Park to enjoy a wildlife safari with us.

Winter (Dec-Feb): The winter months are also challenging due to cold weather and the likelihood of snowfall. During this month, daytime temperatures range from 5℃ to 12℃  at lower elevations,-5℃ to 5℃  at ABC, and night temperatures at ABC drop to between -10℃ and -15℃.

The ABC itinerary is based on routes. Global Adventure Trekking (GAT) regularly operates during the spring (Mar-May) and autumn (Sep-Nov) seasons. Check availability for 2026/2027 departures.

Food and Drink Options on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Flight Back

Foods During the Luxury Annapurna Base Camp

During the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with a helicopter return, you will be provided with nutritious and wholesome meals throughout the journey. But, at higher-altitude destinations, the variety of menu options may be limited, and adapting to local culinary traditions based on your overnight stops and accommodations is often necessary. Many locals at these altitudes grow their own organic products, making vegetarian dishes the freshest and most sustainable choice. Transporting meat products from Pokhara or other surrounding areas can take several days, which may impact their quality. For both your health and to support eco-friendly and sustainable practices, we suggest trekkers choose more convenient vegetarian foods sourced locally.

Bringing along your own snacks, such as nuts and energy bars, is also recommended to keep your energy up while trekking. Please remember to respect the natural environment by carrying out all your trash and disposing of it in designated waste containers. Staying well-hydrated is essential at high altitudes to help prevent altitude sickness, so be sure to drink plenty of boiled or purified water. It is best to avoid alcohol while trekking, as it can dehydrate your body and increase your risk of altitude-related illnesses.

Drinking Water During the ABC Trek through Heli Return

Safe drinking water is widely available at most lodges and teahouses along the trekking route, either through boiling or reliable water purification methods. You can refill your water bottles at these stops; however, it is highly advisable to carry your own reusable water bottle and, if possible, a portable water purification system or tablets for additional safety and convenience. Bottled water is also available for purchase at some locations, but using your own bottle helps reduce plastic waste and environmental impact.

Accommodation Facility on The Comfort Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return

Accommodation During the Comfort ABC Trek

On the Annapurna Base Camp Trek with helicopter return, it is primarily provided by local teahouses along the trekking trails. These teahouses, such as Hotel Himalaya and the ABC, have modest lodges offering basic but comfortable private rooms, typically furnished with two single beds, blankets, and pillows. Most rooms do not have attached bathrooms, emphasising simplicity and practicality for trekkers. We suggest you pack a torch or head torch during the trek.

Facilities in Teahouses/Guest House During the Luxury ABC Trek

Most of the lodges’ and teahouses’ facilities are shared among guests. Communal toilets and showers are the norm, with some teahouses featuring western-style toilets while others have squat toilets. Hot water for bathing and drinking is generally available, though a small fee may apply for its use. Heating systems inside the rooms are not available, but a firewood chimney/kerosene heater is in the dining area to have warm and cosy vibes while having meals. After the Sinuwa trek, you have a chance to feel the kerosene heater in the dining space, but there are no heaters in the rooms.

Variety of Meals:

Meals served at teahouses include a blend of Nepalese and Western dishes. Popular options such as dal bhat (lentil soup with rice), momos (dumplings), and pasta are commonly available, catering to a variety of tastes.

Wi-Fi Networks and Phone Communication Network:

Some teahouses also offer Wi-Fi with a minimum fee; however, the connection is often slow and unreliable due to the remote mountain location. And, for communication with your near ones, you can use Nepal’s SIM cards (easily available): NTC and NCELL.

Despite the simplicity of the accommodations, teahouses/guesthouses offer a warm and friendly atmosphere and provide you with a comfortable place to rest and refuel throughout the journey.

Difficulty Level and Altitude Sickness: Luxury ABC Trek with Heli Return

Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp with a helicopter return is considered moderately difficult, ideal for trekkers who are physically fit and have some prior hiking experience. Several factors contribute to the trek’s overall difficulty:

Altitude: The trek ascends to 4,130 meters (13,550 ft). Where the reduced oxygen levels might cause slight altitude sickness in some individuals, symptoms may include mild headache, nausea, and fatigue, so acclimatization and awareness are important.

Trail Conditions: The trail is generally well-maintained, but certain segments are steep or rocky, requiring careful attention to footing.

Weather: Weather patterns in the region are unpredictable and can shift rapidly, so preparation for varying conditions is essential. Autumn and spring months are preferable for the ABC Trek.

Physical Fitness: Each day involves several hours of trekking, making physical endurance and strength important. No technical skills are required to take part in the ABC.

Duration: The trek typically spans 7 days, which can be mentally demanding for those not used to extended periods in mountainous terrains. The trek to ABC can be customized for a shorter option, like the Short ABC Trek- 6 Days.

Importance of Travel Insurance: Nepal ABC Trek with Heli Flight Back

Securing travel insurance is strongly advised for anyone undertaking the Annapurna Base Camp with a helicopter return. It helps safeguard you from a range of potential issues, such as medical emergencies, accidents, and unexpected trip interruptions. Key advantages of having travel insurance for this adventure include:

  • Emergency Medical Treatment: Insurance coverage for urgent medical care and evacuation should cover you from illness or injury during your trek.
  • Trip Cancellation Protection: If unforeseen events force you to cancel your trip, your insurance may reimburse you for non-refundable expenses.
  • Coverage for Lost or Stolen Belongings: Insurance can compensate you if your luggage or valuables are lost or stolen along the journey.
  • Access to Emergency Assistance: Many policies include 24/7 emergency support services for advice or help in crises.
  • Financial Security: Travel insurance protects you from unexpected costs and losses that could arise while trekking.

When selecting the travel insurance plan, be sure to review the specific benefits, such as medical and trip cancellation coverage. Also, confirm that your policy covers trekking activities and helicopter evacuations relevant to your itineraries.

How Difficult Is the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek in Nepal?

The Annapurna Base Camp is generally rated as a moderate trek in Nepal’s Himalayas. When you travel in the right season and plan your trip with an experienced trekking agency, the trail feels manageable while still offering plenty of adventure and enjoyment. For beginner trekkers looking for a bit of excitement without extreme difficulty, ABC is often an ideal choice. The ABC Trek with a heli ride back makes the journey more comfortable and time-efficient. Its difficulty depends on personal fitness, proper preparation, basic fitness, and altitude, along with external factors such as weather, season, and flying conditions.  When these elements align, the trek offers a balanced mix of adventure, comfort, and amazing Himalayan scenery.
