Mardi Himal Base camp is the name of the long rising ridge and its summit (5,588m) that forms the southwest slope of Mount Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), immediately below its sheer south face. Machhapuchhre (6,993 m./22,940 ft) which towers majestically over the lake City Pokhara, is best known as Fishtail Mountain because of its twin peaks that mirror the image of a fishtail. It is fabulously beautiful and is considered sacred, no permission to climb it has, so far, always been denied. Mardi trek follows through Rhododendron forests, Orchid, and above the tree lines to follow the ridge that takes us up to ‘High Camp 3,620 m. where time is spent acclimatizing while being captivated by the views. Annapurna South seems near enough "eyes to eyes” at Machhapuchhre close enough to touch. Finally, we enter the wilderness territory as we go beyond 4,500 meters where the great ice fields and blue glaciers of Annapurna Base Camp lie below. Around us, in an arc from east to west, are a dozen or more glossy snowcapped giants, with Annapurna I being the highest of them all – the views are almost impossible to equal. Conquering this wilderness region and the incredible proximity of 5 of the highest mountains in the world leaves one feeling like they have to explore ever.

The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is a non-challenging and beautiful trek in the Annapurna region that offers the most scenic view of the Himalayan panorama. It is a less trek route compared to the world-famous Everest Base Camp and Annapurna circuit trek in Nepal. The trek starts from Dfhampus Phedi and ends at Lwang or Anante Thanti. Every day you are fascinated by giant Himalayan ranges with an incredible landscape including much flora and fauna. It is a short trek in the Annapurna region and the trek can be extended up to Ghorepani-Poon Hill in a few additional days. This trek is categorized as an easy and short trek in the Annapurna region.

Highlights

  • Beautiful newly promoted wilderness trekking in the Annapurna region.
  • Best alternative trek to Ghorepani Poon Hill trek and ABC.
  • Traditional villages and sophisticated hospitality of Local people.
  • The closest view of the exquisite Annapurna Himalayas from Mardi Base Camp

Itinerary

Welcome to Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal! As your flight lands at the airport and you come to the international departure section of the Tribhuwan International Airport, you can see our representatives waiting for you. From there, they will drive you to the hotel which is just 6 km far from the airport. As you reach the hotel, you can check in and get freshened up. Then, we recommend trekkers stroll around the city and try out some of the restaurants and cafes in the nearby areas.

In the evening, the Global Adventure Trekking team organizes a trek description session for the trekkers. In this session, our guides will also provide detailed instructions about the trekking route. After that, the trekkers can go to sleep in the hotel.

On the second day, we give a wake-up call to the trekkers. After you wake up, get freshened up, and have a delicious breakfast in the hotel, the guides will take you on a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. This drive is done in a luxurious tourist bus and it takes about 8 hours for the bus to reach Pokhara from Kathmandu. We cover a total distance of 200 km or 124 miles on this day but the journey will be full of adventure and fun.

As we leave Kathmandu and start reaching Pokhara, you can witness that the entire environment starts changing and becomes more peaceful. Pokhara, the city of lakes is also famous as one of the most peaceful cities in Nepal offering the majestic experience of natural beauty. Our bus directly stops at the hotel in Pokhara and you can check in to your room. We recommend the trekkers to get freshen up and take a stroll in Pokhara city. You can go for walking or even boating in the Phewa Lake and visit the tal Barahi Temple located in the middle of the Lake. After that, you can explore different restaurants, hotels, and cafes on the lakeside.

Make the best out of your stay in the city of lakes where nightlife is just on the next level. You can have your dinner at the restaurant of your choice and enjoy the nightlife before ending the day by sleeping in the hotel.

On the third day, the trekkers are taken to Kande in a private vehicle. Kande is the starting point of the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking journey and sits 27 km far from Pokhara. This drive lets trekkers see how magical Pokhara looks early in the morning. Within 45 minutes to 1 hour, we reach Kande and then begin the journey on foot.

As the trekkers get out of the vehicle and handle their backpacks, our guides lead them in the first walking section of the trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp. Our walk begins from Kande and stops as we reach Pital Deurali, a beautiful settlement sitting 2142 meters above sea level. This village offers the most majestic and out-of-the-world vistas of the Annapurna Peaks. Moreover, you also get to interact with the local Brahmin, Magar, and Gurung communities settled in this area.

From Kande, we first ascend to Australian Camp and then to Pothana, and finally we arrive at the Pitam Deurali village. Throughout this section of the trail, trekkers pass through rhododendron blossoms, lush forests, streams, and several villages. Moreover, your walk will be accompanied by the cool breeze of the Himalayas flowing in along the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trail.

As you wake up in the morning and get freshened up, the breakfast will be waiting for you in the dining section. After you finish breakfast, the representatives from Global Adventure Trekking will lead you on another section of the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking map. This journey begins from Pitam Deurali and ends after we reach Low Camp. Low Camp is a village located at an altitude of 3050 meters above sea level that offers spectacular views of Fishtail Mountain (Machhapuchhre).

The section of the trail begins with a decent rise in elevation. It will just be a gentle rise which means that trekkers do not have to give the best out of their physical strength. Moreover, as we ascend higher, the greenery also increases significantly. Also, let us tell you that, this section of the trek consists of many wildlife including leopards, deer, monkeys, and multiple species of birds. Moreover, the forest also consists of several species of faunas including rhododendron, oak, birch, maple, etc. Due to this reason, a lot of trekkers choose this section as their favorite in the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking map.

The journey concludes as we reach Low Camp and settle down at a hotel or guesthouse arranged by GAT. The accommodation place serves a tasty and hygienic dinner with comfortable and cozy rooms to spend the night.

Today, the trekkers will cover a total distance of 8.5 km and ascend to the altitude of 3600 meters above sea level. As we reach such a high altitude, the risk of altitude sickness potentially increases. Therefore, we request the trekkers to take care of themselves. Drink adequate water, have a proper breakfast before ascending, and ascend at a slow pace.

As we begin our journey from the low camp, we need to walk past a rhododendron forest for about one hour. After that, we reach our first checkpoint of the day, Badal Danda. As per our experts' analysis, this section of the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is comparatively challenging. However, if you follow our guides' instructions and trek accordingly, we ensure a safe trek. Besides, the stunning views of Mardi Himal, Annapurna Range, and Machhapuchhre (fishtail mountain) accompany you throughout the day.

Slowly and gradually, the trail becomes a ridge that narrows down as we advance. A few hours of walking and trekkers will be walking with Modi Khola on the left and Mardi and Seti Khola on the right. Overall, the journey will be amazing and amusing at the same time as we trek from Low Camp to High Camp.

On the sixth day of the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek journey, we finally reach the ultimate destination, which is the Mardi Himal Base Camp itself. The route certainly becomes more challenging than it was up until now. However, there is so much that the trekkers can enjoy even better views of the mountains and mountain ranges. Besides, for the adventure-seekers, this section of the trek also offers one of the most adventurous trails in the entire Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking map.

We will spend a couple of hours in the Mardi Himal Base Camp and capture as many photos, and videos, and make as many memories as possible and as much as you want. The mixture of adventure and enjoyment brings a complete feeling of accomplishment to the trekker's heart as they find themselves walking around the Mardi Himal Base Camp. After some time of trekkers spending quality time exploring around Mardi Himal Base Camp, we begin descending to Badal Danda (2950 meters). This section of the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is also challenging but as this is a descending journey, trekkers will not have to spend much physical strength.

Ascending to Mardi Himal Base Camp takes about 5 hours for any average trekker whereas descending from the base camp to Badal Danda takes just 2-3 hours. Both ascending and descending trails offer adventure and thrill to the trekkers. By the late afternoon, we reach Badal Danda and check in at the hotel or guesthouse.

This is the last time in the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking Package to walk. On this day, the guides will lead you from Badal Danda to Siding, another village located at an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level. With a heart full of memories and a mind full of enjoyment, trekkers walk a lovely and adventurous trail. As you reach Siding, the representatives from Global Adventure Trekking will be waiting for you with a shared jeep. From there, we will take you on a scenic drive to Pokhara in your hotel.

Check in at the hotel and then you can go out for a stroll of Pokhara City. Nevertheless, we assume that the trekkers will be very tired on this day. Therefore, we request you to utilize your stay in Pokhara for proper rest.

Finally, it is time for the trekkers to return to Kathmandu after an amazing trek to Mardi Himal Base Camp. Just like we came to Pokhara, we returned to Kathmandu by a comfortable tourist bus. With so many photos and videos in your camera and smartphone, you will have a heartful of memories and adventure as well. We get to Kathmandu within 8 hours covering 201 km of distance. Witnessing the beauty of nature, we drive from a peaceful Pokhara city into the urbanized and densely settled Kathmandu valley.

The bus takes you directly to the hotel where you can check in and get freshened up. After that, we request the trekkers to visit our office to take back their belongings and also talk to us about the experience. In the evening, Global Adventure Trekking arranges farewell dinner to the trekkers and we also provide you with a certificate for successfully competing in the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek.

After spending 8 Days in Nepal and visiting one of the famous trekking routes, trekkers will return to their country on the ninth day. Our representatives will pick you up from the hotel in the morning and drop you off at the airport from where you will board the flight.
