Itinerary

Our journey begins from Kathmandu as we proceed towards Lukla Airport via a 35-minute flight. The Global Adventure Trekking representatives will pick you up from the hotel early in the morning and take you to Kathmandu International Airport. From there, the trekkers will board the flight to the Tenzing-Hilary Airport.

In the peak trekking season, we might have to go from Kathmandu to Manthali / Ramechhap via a 5-hour drive and then fly to Lukla Airport (20 minutes). To resist the drive, we can also arrange a direct helicopter charter from Kathmandu to Lukla, which costs extra money.

Once you reach Lukla Airport, our representative or your guide for the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek will be waiting for you. As you get off the plane, they will lead you towards the first trekking checkpoint, Phakding. Phakding is a beautiful settlement at an altitude of 2620 meters above sea level. It takes an average trekker about 3 hours to reach from Lukla to Phakding.

After spending one night in Phakding, the trekkers will start their walk towards Namche Bazaar. The walk begins after the trekkers have a fulfilling breakfast in Phakding. The route starts along the northern bank of the Dudh Koshi River taking us through many suspension bridges and walking past the routes with prayer flags. Moreover, the trekkers also walk past forests, rhododendron blooms, and locals enjoying their everyday lives.

Within a few hours of walking in this starting section of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek map, we reach a beautiful settlement named Monjo Village and this is the starting point of the Sagarmatha National Park. Therefore, the trekkers need to get their Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit checked here. Then comes a dense jungle leading us to the Namche Bazaar within the next few hours of trekking. Also, this part of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek route is where we start getting the spectacular views of Mount Everest.

Within three days of beginning the journey, we have already ascended from 1400 meters to 3440 meters above sea level. After ascending to such a high altitude, your body requires rest. However, one thing to remember is that resting during the trek does not mean sleeping or staying idle for the whole day. Instead, the trekker needs to go for some day hikes to adapt to the higher altitude.

During your rest day at Namche Bazaar, you can go on three side trips: a day hike to Everest View Hotel, a day hike to Khumjung Monastery, or a day hike to Thame. All these three-day hikes are amazing and the best thing to do to adapt to the higher altitude and its weather conditions. Besides, the trekkers can also visit the Sagarmatha National Park Visitor Center in Khumjung, the Hilary school, and the old monasteries during the day hike to Khumjung.

Besides, the way to Khumjung also consists of a monastery famous as the home of a Yeti-scalp. However, if you want to get the best view of Mount Everest, we suggest the trekkers ascend to the Everest View Hotel. By the evening, all the trekkers need to return to the hotel in Namche Bazaar where they will have dinner and sleep for the third day.

On the fourth day, we leave Namche Bazaar after the early morning breakfast and ascend towards Tengboche. This part of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek map offers scenic views of different mountains like of Kantega and Thamserku. Besides, trekkers can experience walking across a flat and leveled mountain path until they descend to Phunki Tenga.

From there, the path takes a dramatic ascend into a lush rhododendron forest finally taking us to Tengboche. It takes about 5 hours for an average trekker to reach Namche Bazaar to Tengboche by covering a total distance of 11 kilometers. As you reach Tengboche, you can experience a peaceful and calm environment glorified by the chanting of holy Mantras. Also, you can explore the oldest and the largest monastery in the entire Khumbu region, the Tengboche Monastery.

Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged by the Global Adventure Trekking team in Tengboche.

Today is the day of the ultimate ascend as we climb from Tengboche to Ama Dablam Base Camp (4700 meters). This probably is the most difficult section of the entire Ama Dablam Base Camp Trekking route. Trekkers can expect a rugged and less traveled route on this section of the trekking route. We suggest all the trekkers be very attentive and follow all the instructions provided by guides.

Once you reach the Ama Dablam Base Camp, you can see many other people strolling at the base camp. Moreover, trekkers also get opportunities to meet and greet the climbers who are on their way to ascend to the peak of Mount Ama Dablam (6812 meters). Being at an altitude of 4700 meters above sea level feels amazing. On top of that, Ama Dablam Base Camp also offers amazing views of different peaks like Mount Everest (8,849 m), Lhotse (8,516m) and Nuptse (7,861m), Thamserku (6,623m) and Kangtega (6,782m).

Dinner and overnight stay will be arranged by the Global Adventure Trekking team in Pangboche as we will descend to Pangboche from Ama Dablam Base Camp on the same day.

Being at Ama Dablam Base Camp is a beauty within itself. However, what if we say that trekkers will ascend even higher on the sixth day? Yes, today, we will ascend from the base camp to Mangla Dada (4900 meters). The trek begins after having a fulfilling breakfast in Pangboche and walking down to route to reach Phortse village (3,810m). From there, we again follow a descending path leading to the riverside and then ascend until we reach Mangla Dada.

This supplementary part of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek is harder than any other section due to its higher altitude and rugged path. Moreover, there is also a constant risk of altitude sickness at such high altitudes. Therefore, we request the trekkers to be cautious while ascending in this section of the trek to Ama Dablam Base Camp.

This brings us to the end of the ascending journey and the beginning of the descending journey. On the seventh day, we fall back from Mangla Dada to Manjo at an altitude of 2835 meters. You will love the descending journey after visiting one of the best viewpoints in the Everest region trekking area.

Trekkers will descend the Mangla Dada to Manjo through a comparatively rugged terrain which transforms into a rather comfortable route. Sharing the experiences, and talking to the guides and fellow trekkers, while enjoying the landscapes and nature, it takes only 6 hours for us to cover a total of 12 kilometers. Our dinner and overnight stay will take place in Manjo.

On the eighth day, we wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, and set off on a journey towards Lukla. This section of the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trekking journey will mostly take place on a comfortable route. Besides, we will descend from an altitude of 2835 meters to 2800 which covers a total distance of 10 kilometers and takes 5 hours.

Finally, it's time to get back to Kathmandu. On the ninth day, the guides will escort you from the hotel to the Lukla Airport after breakfast. Once you board the flight to Kathmandu, the Ama Dablam Base Camp Trek comes to an end. Within 35 minutes, you will arrive at the Kathmandu International Airport.
