Gosainkunda Lake trek falls within the Langtang National Park. It is a 6 days journey to the sacred Gosainkunda Lake situated at an altitude of 4,300 m. Revered by both Buddhists and Hindus, the lake is visited by hundreds of pilgrims during the full moon in August.

Gosainkunda Lake is part of the folk culture of the Tamang community, who are the chief inhabitants of this area. It is believed that the lake was visited by Guru Rimpoche during his travel to Tibet and drank its water to relieve food poisoning. Similar mythological references are attributed to the Hindu God Shiva, who is supposed to lie prostrate under the water. Tamang Shamans from all over the surrounding villages make a special pilgrimage in their traditional garb, beating their traditional drums (Dhyangro) as a way to invoke their gods. It is a 6-day trek to the frozen lake and back to Kathmandu. The route is pleasant and scenic with the Tibetan village and Langtang Panorama. 

The Gosain Kunda Lake journey involves crossing Lauribina Pass (4,609 m), the highest pass in the Langtang region that offers spectacular views of Langtang Himalayan ranges such as Langtang Lirung (7,250 m), Dorje Lakpa (6,988 m), Yala, Langshisha etc. You will also visit sacred Kyangin Gomba and Shing Gomba along with Langtang Village which was devastated during the April 2015 earthquake.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by Global Adventure Trekking Company (GAT) personnel and transferred to the hotel. Check in and the rest of the time is free.

GAT team will pick you up and transfer you to the bus station at Machhapokhari. It is exciting and fun bus journey to Dhunche Bazar. Gosainkunda trekking begins after a 7-hours bus drive to Dhunche. Your journey begins together with a guide to Dhunche via Trisuli Bazaar. This is a scenic and adventurous overland tour of Dhunche.

Dhunche is the district headquarters of Rasuwa. Dhunche is another viewpoint place and after breakfast, your trekking begins. Our staff always make sure you all are fine and ready to leave. The trekking trails are almost level with the Trisuli River. After we cross the river path leads you uphill through the forest. After a few hours, you will arrive in Singh Gumba.

Singh Gumba is the home of the endangered Red Panda and a beautiful monastery. Today begin your trek to Gosainkunda Lake. The trail is uphill but very pleasant due to the mountain range and vegetation along the way. Mostly we walk through the pine forest and in the lower section but as soon as you arrive at Lauribinayak the massive range of mountains and ice lake will appear. Keep walking through the narrow alley to holy lake Gosainkunda.

Gosainkunda is a holy place where many shrines go there for Pooja on special dates. After visiting all the lakes and viewing sunrise we will trek down to Singh Gomba for a night.

Your trek will descend to Dhunche through the side trails. This forest is famous for Red Panda and many Natural Ayurvedic medicine plants are found.

After having breakfast at Dhunche, we take 6 hrs. Bus ride back to Kathmandu. It is a safe and pleasant bus ride through the small local village. You can enjoy picturesque landscapes. The last bus stop at Balaju, and the transfer to Hotel. Evening, farewell dinner at a Nepalese typical restaurant with a cultural show.
