Itinerary

Gorakshep is a beautiful settlement at an altitude of 5110 meters located around the frozen lake bed. This village remains uninhabited for most of the time only to open for the  HYPERLINK "https://globaladventuretrekking.com/everest-region-trek"Everest region trekking. If you are an adventure seeker, you will love the route that begins from this part of the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake 18 Days Itinerary.

Being in Gorak Shep means that the trekkers have almost reached the highest point of the Everest Base Camp Trekking journey. The route from Lobuche to the highest Sherpa settlement is pretty much rough and rugged. However, we do not stop at Gorak Shep. Yes, the trekkers ascend a little higher on the same day to reach the Everest Base Camp (5364 meters).

Please take your moment to capture different photos and videos as memories and celebrate your ascend to the base camp of the tallest peak in the world, Mt. Everest. However, remember that, due to extreme and uncertain climatic and weather conditions, we do not spend too much time in the Everest Base Camp. So, after spending some time there, the trekkers again return to Gorak Shep where they will spend the night after having dinner.

After such a long and tiring yet adventurous and worthy walk in the Himalayas, today is the day when the trekkers will return to their home country. Global Adventure Trekking's representatives will bid farewell to the trekkers with a strong belief of escorting them for another exciting trekking journey.

Wake up early in the morning, get freshened up, and then trekkers will have a fulfilling and the last breakfast (for this package) in the Everest region. A little rest after breakfast and the representatives from Global Adventure Trekking will take you to the airport. From there, you can board the flight that takes you to Kathmandu Airport.

In peak season, trekkers might have to return via Manthali. This means a 20-minute flight followed by a five-hour long drive will be added. At Kathmandu Airport or bus stop, our representatives will receive the trekkers and take them to the hotel. You can freshen up and go for an exploration in the nearby areas. However, we request the trekkers to be at the hotel for a farewell dinner and experience-sharing session.

Finally, we have reached the lowest part of the EBC with Gokyo Valley Trek's 18-Day Itinerary, which is still more than 1000 meters higher than Kathmandu's altitude. Yes, on the sixteenth day, we reach Lukla from Namche. This probably is the most comfortable and easy section of the entire trekking route in the Everest region. However, this is also the longest section as we cover 19 km within 7 hours on this day.

Walking 19 kilometers within 7 hours on the Himalayan route is not a joke. It certainly requires much strength and energy regardless of the route being too comfortable. Therefore, the trekkers will not return to Kathmandu on the same day. Instead, we can celebrate the expedition and talk to the newly made friends, guides, and locals in the Lukla area.

The journey is only long until it's uphill, when it comes to downhill, it automatically gets quicker. Take this descending journey as an example where it took us 8 days to reach Namche Bazaar to Gokyo Ri but it only took two days to reach Namche Bazaar from Gokyo Ri. The route is pretty much decent as trekkers can walk while sharing memories, and having fun and very easily than while ascending.

This section of the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek covers a total distance of 10 kilometers and takes only 4 hours for the trekkers to reach their destination. In Namche, once again the trekkers can enjoy a majestic and unbelievable settlement amidst the Himalayas. Being in Namche Bazaar after these many days in the higher altitude can help trekkers get relaxed and forget all the tiredness.

Imagine going to Gokyo Valley and not visiting Gokyo Ri. Well, that's not happening! On the thirteenth day, we will climb to the Gokyo Ri located at an altitude of 5357 meters. Gokyo Ri is located on the west side of the Ngozumpa glacier. Besides, this place is known as one of the highest peaks in the Khumbu region. Trekkers can see a few houses built with stones and this settlement is also famous as one of the highest settlements of the world.

We will explore Gokyo Ri for a couple of hours and then go for a trek to Machhermo. This is a descending journey which takes us from 5357 meters to 4470 meters. On this day, we will only walk for about 5 hours depending upon the trekkers' pace and comfortability. By the evening, we will reach Machhermo, where we will have dinner and then stay for the night.

Now we are on the second part of this trekking package which means that the trekkers will visit Gokyo Lake on the twelfth day. Well, Gokyo Valley starts as soon as we pass Cho La Pass, but on this day, we will reach the lake area. The route of this section of the 18-Day EBC with Gokyo Valley Trek is pretty much adventurous. You will love the walk with pristine views of the mountains and the serene and crystal clear water in the Gokyo Lakes.

Explore the lake area, and capture as many memories as possible. Gokyo Lakes is known to be the highest lakes in the world and these lakes are not even frozen. Travelers will love to explore the lake area an take photos and videos. After a few hours of exploration, we request the trekkers to return to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Now as we have returned from the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar, it's time to ascend to the next part of the trek i.e Cho La Pass, for the journey towards the Gokyo Valley. The trek from Dzongla to Cho La Pass covers a total distance of 9 kilometers and it takes an average trekker about 7 hours to reach the Cho La Pass. This pass is one of the three highest passes in Nepal and is located at an altitude of 5416 meters.

Once you reach the Cho La Pass, you will also have to cross the Ngozumpa Glacier. As per many trekkers and travelers, this is one of the most technical parts of the  HYPERLINK "https://globaladventuretrekking.com/everest-region-trek"Everest region trekking. Moreover, Cho La Pass is also the steepest pass in the Everest region and is situated between two villages.

After passing through the most technical part of the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley Trek, we descend towards Dragnag. Today, the trekkers will cover a distance of about 9 kilometers and walk for about 7 hours based on their pace. After such a long walk, the Global Adventure Trekking team will arrange the dinner and accommodation in Dragnag.

Well, isn't it amazing to see witness Mount Everest from its base camp itself? What if we tell you that you can get an even better view of the tallest peak from another point that lies at a higher altitude than the Everest Base Camp? That is exactly where we are heading on the tenth day of the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek.

Early in the morning even before breakfast, we ascend to Kalapatthar, a viewpoint at an altitude of 5555 meters. We commence this trekking journey early because you would not want to miss the magical sunrise view from the Kalapatthar viewpoint. Moreover, the sun striking the summit of Everest and many other peaks in the surroundings make them golden. This makes the morning even more beautiful.

Just like in the Everest Base Camp, we do not spend much time in Kalapatthar as well due to extreme temperatures and unforeseen climatic conditions. Therefore, after spending some time in the viewpoint, capturing as many pictures and video-form memories as possible, we trek towards Dzongla.

Trekkers will be welcomed at the Tribhuvan International Airport by Global Adventure Trekking representatives with Khada and then transferred to the hotel in Kathmandu. You can check in at the hotel, freshen up yourself, and then take a walk in the nearby areas. Besides, you can also try some of the local cuisines available in the locality. In the evening, the Global Adventure Trekking team will offer you a welcome dinner along with a meet-and-greet program with the guides.

Take rest for the night as we will start the adventurous trek to the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley on the next day. Make sure that you take proper rest on this night because you will need that for the journey that follows.

After Dingboche, our next checkpoint in the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lake Trek will be Lobuche. This is a village located at the base of the Lobuche Peak (6145 meters). You will love seeing the surrounding landscapes, snow-covered peaks, and rugged trails that offer even more thrill and adventure.

This section of the 18-Day Everest Base Camp journey with Gokyo Valley Trek begins after having a fulfilling breakfast at Dingboche. From there, we follow a route that takes us to Thukla Village, another beautiful Sherpa settlement in the Everest Trekking route. After crossing the Thukla village, we reach a pass of the same name (Thukla Pass). On this part of the trek, travelers can witness stone monuments set up for the memories of the people who could not successfully return from the Mount Everest Summit Expedition.

After walking for about 4 hours on the route covered by prayer flags, stone paths, and traditional and religious-influenced houses, we finally reach Lobuche. Overnight stay and dinner have already been arranged by the Global Adventure Trekking team.

Dingboche is another place for acclimatisation during the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley. As we are already at an altitude of 4400 meters the upcoming section of the EBC with Gokyo Valley Trek is very rough and rugged terrains are mostly what you see. Moreover, due to such high altitude, there is also very little chance of vegetation.

As there are many difficulties on the higher part of the trekking route, trekkers do need a rest before getting any higher. By rest, we do not mean that the trekkers will be sleeping all day. Instead, the Global Adventure Trekking team has two exciting side treks for this day; a Day Hike to Chhukung Valley and a Day Hike to Nangkartshang Peak. You can choose any one of these and go for an amazing acclimatisation journey.

By the evening, the trekkers will return to the hotel at Dingboche for dinner and sleep to prepare their bodies and mind for the higher excursion. However, we also recommend trekkers to interact with the locals on that day to immerse themselves into the lifestyle, tradition, and culture of Dingboche.

In the early morning, trekkers will have breakfast in the hotel and then start on the trail that leads towards Dingboche (Dyangboche), a beautiful village located at an altitude of 4400 meters and surrounded by mountains. The trek begins with a decent uphill that gradually traverses through amazing landscapes of the Himalayas. Remember that, this section of the 18-Day Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek is comparatively more challenging than the previous days.

During this section of the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek, trekkers can get one of the best views of Mount Ama Dablam (6812 meters). Moreover, you will also be in for one of the best experiences talking and interacting with the locals living a traditional lifestyle. Within 5 hours, we will cover about 11 km and ascend to an altitude of 4400 meters reaching Dingboche. Famous as the ultimate settlement of Sherpas, Dingboche sits peacefully in the lap of the Imja Valley.

As we reach Dingboche, trekkers can explore the area and talk to the locals before returning to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

After spending one day in Namche Bazaar and ascending to day hikes, it's time to continue of the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley map ascend. On the fifth day, trekkers will have their breakfast and commence on a journey from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3680 meters). The initial part of the route for this day is comparatively good with gentle ascend from the village. Upon walking for a few hours, we reach the famous tea house at Kyanjuma passing through a spectacular path by the hillside.

From Kyanjuma, the route descends towards Dudh Koshi and then begins the climb to Tengboche (Tyangboche). Trekkers will be on a long and strenuous ascending journey to reach Tengboche. However, the surrounding environment, landscapes, and mountains that we see during the climb make it worthwhile for the trekkers. Within 5 hours of the walk in this section of the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley map takes us to Tengboche. This is where the trekkers will have dinner and sleep before ascending any further.

Namche Bazaar is a beautiful place while also being the starting point of the risk of altitude sickness. As we will be at an altitude of 3440 meters, there are higher chances of altitude sickness from this part of the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley. Due to both of these reasons, Global Adventure Trekking declares the fourth day of the 18-day EBC Gokyo Valley Trek as acclimatisation day in Namche Bazaar.

On this day, trekkers can also go for a couple of alternative day hikes; a Day Hike to Everest View Hotel or a day hike to the Khumjung Village. The Everest View Hotel is one of the most famous hotels in the world as the hotel at the highest altitude of 3962 meters or 13000 ft. If you visit the Khumjung village, you can witness a beautiful settlement at an altitude of 3790 meters or 12,430 ft. Hiking to both of Everest View Hotel and Khumjung Village offers amazing views of the surrounding landscapes. traditional settlements, and pristine views of the snow-covered peaks like Mt. Everest (8848 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), Ama Dablam (6812 meters), Kongde Ri, Kusum Khangaru, Thamserku, Khongeta, and many more.

After the hike, we return to Namche Bazaar, interact with the locals, watch sunset from the Sherpa Capital, and then have dinner at the hotel before sleeping for the night.

Just like any other Everest region trekking itineraries, we leave Phakding to reach Namche Bazaar on the third day. This section of the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley begins with a slightly ascending path that takes the trekkers through several metallic bridges over the serene river, traditional settlements, prayer flags, and Mani walls, along with the pristine views of the tall and majestic mountain peaks. Furthermore, you can also experience walking under the lust pine and rhododendron forest. If you are lucky enough, this part of the trek also offers amazing opportunities to witness several animals and birds.

After walking for about 6 hours and covering a total distance of 10 kilometers, the trekkers can finally find them in the Sherpa Capital of the Khumbu region, Namche Bazaar. Located at an altitude of 3440 meters, Namche still has all the advanced facilities like ATMs and internet cafes. Along with that, you can also interact with the local Sherpas grazing their yaks and running their local businesses.

We will explore the area for the rest of the day and gather at the hotel for a fulfilling local dinner before a restful and sound sleep to prepare for the next day's adventure.

We don't waste even a single day on our journey to the Everest Base Camp Trek and Gokyo Valley. So, on the second day, the trekkers will fly from Kathmandu International Airport to the Tenzing-Hilary Airport in Lukla. As you land at the airport, your guides for the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek will receive you and take you on a trek towards Phakding (2620 meters).

The trek from Lukla to Phakding covers a total distance of 4 kilometers and trekkers will have to walk for about 4 hours depending upon their fitness and pace. However, we only commence the trek after having breakfast in Lukla. Therefore, the trekkers will have much energy and can easily ascend this part of the Everest Base Camp Gokyo Valley Trek. The route starts giving the vibes of mountains, hills, landscapes, and remote lifestyle while still being highly developed which trekkers will witness at the higher altitude. Difficulty Level of Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek

Almost all of the trekking routes in the Everest region are considered to be strenuous and the same goes with the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek. This trekking package lasts for 18 days, and trekkers need to walk for an average of 5-6 hours every day. Besides, the slopes are also very steep in some places which can exhaust the trekkers easily.

If you are a professional trekker with many years of experience, this might not be a big deal. However, for new trekkers or trekkers with quite a little experience walking in higher altitudes, the EBC with Gokyo Valley is something we strongly suggest not to try. Trekkers must undergo serious training and preparation and have proper gear and equipment to successfully ascend and return from the Gokyo Lake from Everest Base Camp Trek. One of the worst things for many trekkers trailing the Everest Base Camp with the Gokyo Lake map is that in the higher altitude, facilities are way less than expected. Along with that, there is also a constant risk of altitude sickness throughout the expedition.

However, trekkers can overcome all of these and other risks and obstacles by following some preparation techniques while ascending the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley route.

Preparation for the Everest Base Camp Expedition with Gokyo Valley Trek

There is no doubt that the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley is one of the strenuous journeys in the Himalayas of Nepal. Risks of altitude sickness, limited facilities, steep routes, and extreme temperatures are something that keeps haunting the route once we pass Namche Bazaar.

Therefore, the trekkers need to be highly aware of all these situations, and for that, here are the preparations that we suggest trekkers do before and while ascending this trail:

  • First of all, trekkers must be physically healthy and fit with mental calmness as another major factor to concentrate on.
  • Make sure that you do regular exercises and workouts, and go for other shorter hikes and treks.
  • Do not consume alcoholic or nicotine products since almost half a year before the trek.
  • Read blogs, watch videos, and talk to the guides and travel operators to learn about the challenges and opportunities in the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley Expedition.
  • Drink plenty of water and eat only healthy home-cooked food. Avoid junk foods and fast foods as much as possible.
  • Make sure that you select the best travel agency in Nepal to go for the trek because they take proper care of the trekkers and make the expedition highly adventurous and memorable.
  • While ascending on the route, we suggest the trekkers keep a slow and steady pace.
  • If you feel difficulty, please inform the guides on time so that they can inspect your condition and make decisions about whether to continue the trek or help you return to Kathmandu.

Transportation Facilities During the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Lake

No matter which trekking destination you choose, it certainly requires the trekkers to travel from Kathmandu to the starting point of that route. The same goes for the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley Expedition. Trekkers can generally use two types of transportation methods during this trek: via bus and airplane.

Mostly, Global Adventure Trekking arranges an airplane flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. However, in the peak seasons, chances are that the trekkers need to go via another route that first goes to Manthali via public bus. After that, the trekkers will reach Lukla via a 20-minute long airplane flight. However, if you do not want to get into the hassle of traveling via bus, trekkers can also opt for a direct helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla.

They can also do the same while returning from the adventure. No matter which transportation medium you choose, the Global Adventure Trekking team ensures comfortable transportation during the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley Expedition.

When is the best time to visit the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley?

Expeditions in the Himalayas need to be well-planned and perfectly organized. However, are you aware that one factor that every trekker must consider while planning the Everest Base Camp Trek is the perfect season? As per most of professional trekkers and mountain experts including the GAT team, the Spring season (March to May) and Autumn season (mid-September to November) are the best times to visit the Himalayas of Nepal.

We suggest trekkers go for the Everest Base Camp Trek with the Gokyo Valley Expedition in these seasons for the best experience in the highest altitude. If you choose the spring or autumn season for the Everest region trekking, your trekking expedition will become convenient, comparatively easy, and adventurous. Clear skies, green landscapes, snow-covered mountains, and as many facilities as possible.

Other than that, Global Adventure Trekking also opens the Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley adventure in other seasons. However, if you plan to ascend this trail in the winter season, you need to undergo different obstacles like extreme temperature, shutting down of most of the accommodation centers and so much more.

Food and Accommodation Facilities in the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley Trek

Good food and comfortable accommodation are two of the most important factors of any tour or long journey. Once you book the package with the Global Adventure Trekking team, trekkers do not have to worry about the availability of proper food and accommodation.

The hotels and lodges in the lower part (until Namche Bazaar) serve many food items like bread, Roti, Nepali Thali Set, Thakali Khana, Eggs, Peas, Beans, and Jams. tea, coffee, and so much more. However, as we ascend higher than Namche Bazaar, the food options gradually become limited. However, regarding the accommodation, Everest Base Camp Trek with Gokyo Valley trail offers trekkers the most cozy and comfortable hotels and guesthouses with all the facilities that trekkers need to adapt to such high altitudes.

We request trekkers to carry water with them and even in higher altitudes, we suggest them drink only warm water. However, keep in note that, the hotels and lodges might pay extra money for warm water at higher altitudes.

What Other Facilities Can be Expected during the EBC with Gokyo Valley Trek

As time passes by and the world is getting more and more developed in terms of digitization and comfortability, basic needs have also increased for the trekkers. Nowadays, food, water, and cozy accommodation are not the only basic needs. Other than that, trekkers also require other facilities like WiFi, Internet, Electricity, Charging Ports, Warm Water for Shower, etc.

In recent days, even the hotels and guesthouses in the higher altitude have all these facilities. Also, Global Adventure Trekking makes sure that we only book the accommodation centers having all these facilities during the ascend to the EBC and Gokyo Valley Trek. Therefore, trekkers will get all the necessary facilities like electricity, WiFi, mobile networks, etc throughout the trek. However, you also must be well aware of the fact that you might have to pay some extra money to use all these facilities in the higher altitudes.

Risks of Altitude Sickness and Ways to Stay Safe During the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek

One of the most common (but deadly if not taken seriously) issues during the high altitude expedition is altitude sickness. This is a health issue that happens at higher altitudes due to insufficient oxygen and extreme temperatures. As we ascend over 2500 meters to 3000 meters in the Himalayas, trekkers might start getting prone to altitude sickness.

Some of the most common signs of altitude sickness affecting the trekkers are nausea, vomiting, weakness, lack of appetite, headache, and insomnia. Therefore, if you have any of these problems while ascending in the EBC with Gokyo Valley Trek, please inform the guides or porters as immediately as possible. However, we also would request the trekkers to not panic if you experience altitude sickness.
Here are a few ways to stay safe from altitude sickness during the Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley Trek:

  • Drink as much water as possible. We suggest the trekkers to carry a perfect water bottle to drink water within a certain gap.
  • Keep slow and steady pace and make sure that you follow the trail led by the guides and porters.
  • Do not carry high backpacks to make it easy for you to walk and keep your body flexible.
  • Eat as healthy and minerals-rich food as possible and avoid eating junk foods.
  • Study and understand the entire map of the Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Valley trek before you begin the journey.
  • Wear warm but lighter clothes while ascending and keep yourself as light and warm as possible while staying in the hotels and lodges as well.

Trekkers must have a TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System), Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit, and Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Municipality Entrance Permit to ascend on this trekking route.

These permits are available at the Nepal Tourism Board Office, Kathmandu, and the Sagarmatha National Park entrance in Monjo.

Yes, as we ascend above Namche Bazaar, the route is rough, the climate is uncertain, and the altitude is too high. Due to all of these reasons, altitude sickness has a higher probability during the trek.

Our guides are highly skilled and seasoned trekkers with government licences. Besides, they also have good speaking English.

No, since April 1, 2023, the Nepal Government has put a complete ban on trekkers ascending any route alone or without a professional and Government-licensed guide.
