The Everest 3-pass trek starts after the scenic half-hour flight to Lukla. This flight is the most exciting one with the view of Panoramic Mountain and diverse landscapes. The first part of the trek allows you to pass through the serene forests of birch and Juniper, up the Bhote Koshi stream. You will have enough time to acclimatize in Namche whilst experiencing Sherpa culture, Customs, cuisine, and hospitality. You will be trekking through rough terrain, moraines, and glaciers once at a higher altitude. What is the possible best time for the Everest High Pass Trek?

This three-pass trek involves crossing three high mountain passes: Renjo- La Pass 5,340 m./17, 515 ft, Cho-La Pass 5,420 m/17,777 ft. And Kongma- La Pass 5,535 m./18,154 ft. including Kala Patthar and Everest Base Camp.

Everest High Pass Facts

Renjo La Pass 5,340 m./17,515 ft. The first pass of the trek, from Namche, leads you to the biggest Marlung village-the riverside settlement. Renjo La provides breathtaking views of the Everest region, including Gokyo Lakes.

Cho La Pass, 5,420 m./17,777 ft. This pass is known for its steep ascent and descent and connects the Everest Base Camp route with the Gokyo Valley.

Kongma La Pass 5,535 m./18,154 ft. This pass is the last and the highest of the three. It offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers.

Day 01: Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding 2,620 m./8,593 ft./ 8 km./4 hrs.

Iconic morning flight to Lukla (135 km.) and start the trek through Sherpa village. The trail goes gradually flat and easy to Phakding. 

Note: In high season (October/November and April/May), all the STOL flights may be conducted from Ramechap-Lukla-Ramechap to avoid air traffic and delays. Kathmandu to Ramechap is 130 km (5 hours). The flight to Lukla from Ramechap is just 15 minutes.

This is a great day for the acclimation and day hike to Khumjung Monastery/Everest View Hotel and back to Namche Bazaar. During the day, you can hike up to Everest view hotel, one of the highest placed hotel in the world, situated at an elevation of 3,750 m (13,000 ft). Later in the afternoon, you can come to Namche to spend a warm and comfortable stay.

Trekking to Thame is not physically hard. Thame and Marlung are the most beautiful and old village routes to Renjo-La Pass.  Today, you can have a smooth and pleasant walk after the acclimatization day at Namche. Cross the river and head to Thame. spend time with locals and have interesting conversations about the culture and lifestyle of Sherpa people.

After having breakfast, you will walk through herb and pine forests in the highland until Lungden. You could have a mesmerizing view of the landscape and mountains around you.  The trail to Renjo-La is beautiful but a little bit hard. This trek features a rocky trail along with pine, Jupiter, fir, and many more. From the top, you will be welcomed by Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and amazing landscapes. Descending to Gokyo will take about 3 hours through an icy and rocky path.

Morning: visit Gokyo Ri for the sunrise and get back to the lodge, then trek to Thaknak. The path is easy to follow to Thaknak apart from crossing the glacier. arrive and check in at the guest house.

Another challenging day of the trek! Starting early is recommended because of the icy and fragile rocky path. From Thaknak (4,750 m), walk to the top of Chola (5,420 m) and descend to Dzongla (4,830 m)  Enjoy the beautiful panoramic view of the Mountain and Lobuche Peak.

Congrats on being at Kala Patthar 5545m! After having breakfast, walk to Everest Base Camp (5,364 m). It is 6 km one way and back. After exploration, return to Gorak Shep and trek down to Lobuche for the night.

This is the longest and most difficult pass among the three passes. The path is completely into the wilderness, with no huts, and no lodges on the way to the top. It is a 10-kilometer distance, but icy, rocky, windy, and fragile rocks make your day longer than you expected. Prepare dry food and water for yourself.

Important Note for Everest High Pass trekking

Medical and health information:

All travelers need to be in good physical health to participate in this trip. Before buying this trip please read the details itinerary carefully. You should consult your doctor for your Medical travel information or any necessary vaccination before departure. We suggest you bring your medical kid.

Accommodation while Three Pass Trekking:

Accommodation at the local lodge known as Guesthouses is simple but comfortable. Toilet and washing facilities are shared. In the guesthouse, travelers are provided a twin-sharing room with twin beds, mattresses, and pillows. In high season (March to May) and September to November) in places there are few numbers of guesthouses so sometimes travelers may do dormitories. In some places, guest house depends on solar power. In remote regions, the guest house does not have a toilet and running water can mean just a hole in the ground. A hot shower facility is available in some guesthouses for a price but occasionally hot shower means a bucket of hot water that is enough to wash your body. Electricity and Wi-Fi are available someplace for a small additional cost.

Transport:

Air: Kathmandu to Lukla flights are often delayed due to poor weather conditions. All travelers are suggested to have a few backup days in the end to catch their International flight. If the flights keep canceling then you have the option to take a charter Heli flight which will cost about 500 USD per person. This also depends on the number of people who want to have that Heli flight. So make sure you have prepared your emergency fund just in case. All domestic flight has a strict weight limit. 10 kg of your baggage and 5 kg of hand luggage are included in your tickets. Excess baggage will be charged at your own expense. 

Flight Note: All the Lukla sector flights are going to operate from Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) due to the air traffic in Kathmandu.  Effective from 25th March 2024 till 31st May 2024. Ramechhap Airport is about 127 km east of Kathmandu and takes a 5-hour drive. The sharing private vehicles are available daily.

Phone and Internet services in Everest High Pass Trek:

Most of the hotel in Kathmandu offers free Wi-Fi with excellent connection. While trekking Wi-Fi is available in the teahouse for a small cost. The higher you go the more use of Wi-Fi and the internet will cost and likely the shower the speed. Remember your room may not have an electrical outlet. You have to share the dining hall for your recharge. Type C, D, and M are the most common adaptors for charging your accessories in Nepal.
