Jiri Everest Base Camp Trekking follows the classical trail to Everest Base Camp first traversed by the historic 1953 Everest expedition of Hillary and Tenzing. Nowadays, it is occasionally used by trekkers who would like to take a longer route to Everest Base Camp. This route avoids the busier standard route through Lukla and allows trekkers to explore places that are less traveled by visitors.

The route passes through the lower parts of Everest region/Solu that are remote and less developed as compared to the villages around Namche Bazaar. Trekkers get to experience the authentic tradition and culture of a host of ethnic groups such as Sherpa, Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, and Chhetri. If you are planning a trek to Everest Base camp from Jiri which is through lower Solu passes Bhandar, Junbensi, Nunthala, and Kharikhola and reach Phakding and follow the Classical Everest Trekking route.

Take a long overland journey to Bhandar by bus or jeep and start the trekking. The road is not well paved but still, it is doable. If you take a bus to Bhandar via Jiri then you can cut a few days to reach Everest Base Camp. The total duration of the trekking will be 18 days with two acclimatizing days at Namche (3440 m) and Dingboche (4400 m).

Since the ascent is gradual, acclimatization is much easier and allows trekkers to adapt to the change in altitude as they reach the highland Khumbu region. Hike to Kalapathar (5,545 m.) and Everest Base Camp (5380m), is the culmination point of this trek from where the southwest face of Everest is visible. Kala Pathar offers mind-blowing views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and Ama Dablam, and Khumbu glacier. The return trek follows a different route and leads you to Lukla visiting the iconic Thyangboche Monastery and the bustling Namche Bazaar on the way. The cheapest option to go trekking in Nepal is also possible with us. The cheapest option is- we sell only Guide services trek as well and you can pay for your food and accommodation along the trek on your own.

Itinerary

Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek is a classical Everest Base Camp Trek path. There are some other options to reduce the trekking days by taking a flight or jeep to Phaplu, Please kindly write us back for an option.

After having breakfast we begin our bus journey to Bhandar. It is a 9-hour Journey but pleasant. Along the way we will stop at Charikot and Jiri for view point as well as for Lunch and keep continue drive to Bhandar.

The trail drops down to the Likhu Khloa and crosses the river at 1,580 m, and onto Kenja. Now we make the long climb to Lamjura hill. The first part of the climb is quite steep, whence it traverses to Sete, and an abandoned stupa at 2,575 m. We continue through the villages inhabited by Sherpas and have both Nepali and Sherpa names

Trek begins with a long but gradual climb to the Lamjura pass at 3,530m. There you are rewarded with frost and often snow along the trail in winter or with blooming rhododendrons in the spring. The pass is the highest point between Jiri and Namche Bazaar, there you have a good lunch stop. From the top you descend to Tragdobuk (2,860 m), then to the pretty Sherpa village of Junbesi (2,675 m).

We climb to a ridge at 3,080 m. from where Everest slowly begins to appear before your eyes. From Junbesi the trail leads to the hospital and the Airstrip at Phaplu as well as the district headquarter and a small market at Salleri. Leaving Salung, we make our way descending to the Ringmo Khola at 2,650 m followed by a small climb to Ringmo. We see an apple orchard at this spot; the Apple House offers apple juice, pie and rakshi (rice spirit). The trail from Ringmo to Namche Bazaar was built in the 1980’s and avoids many of the steep descents and ascents of the older route. Then we reach Trakshindo pass (3,071 m), then the trail drops down pass the monastery of the same name, on to Nuntala at 2,440 m.

After having breakfast trek begins through the Rhododendron forest and Bamboo forest. Along the way, you may encounter Monkeys, wild boar, and many different types of butterflies. Today, we are going up and down through the bushes and Sherpa village to Jubing. Most of the Sherpa climbers originate here and keep ascending to Khari Khola.

We begin a day with a climb towards Puiyan through Sherpa villages and woods, passing through a narrow canyon before arriving at Puiyan.

You are trekking gradually up through the Sherpa village. This day we continue a climb from Puiyan to a ridge at 2,800 m before a gradual ascent to the final ridge, where we climb down to Surke following the trail towards Phakding.

We continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering the Sagamartha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views. Namche Bazaar, known as the Gateway to Everest, is home to many quality restaurants, hotels, lodges, shops, money exchange, Internet cafes, and a bakery. Namche is the largest village along the entire Everest trail.

We spend a day in Namche Bazaar in order to acclimatize and adjust to the thinning air. We will trek a short distance to a museum that is celebrated for its exhibits of the traditional customs of the Sherpa people. We also hike up the Syangboche Airport near the Everest View Hotel. From this point, we can see rewarding views of the Himalayas with a stunning sunrise and sunset over the panorama of Khumbu peaks.

Trek begins very easily first part then the trail goes downhill to Phunki Tanga on the riverside. From here Buddhism was introduced into the Khombu valley. Then ascend about 800m to Tyangboche through the pine forest.

Tengboche is the best place to view Mount Everest, Amadablam and Thanserku in the back. Tengboche monastery is another attraction of the tourist so GAT staffs take you there in the morning to participate for Puja and descend through the Rhododendron forest.

As we are walking in high altitude area so we are trekking like a slog. When we cross the small river in Dhukla the path goes steep up to Lobuche. You visit Chorten,Mane stone and all panoramic view of above eight thousand meters mountain.

You are on the lap of the Himalayan range. Gorakshep is the initial base camp of Everest. Until 1950s climber set their camp at this place. Once you reach Gorekshep on the same day 3hrs hiked up to Everest base camp (5,300m) and back to lodge

Early morning start your trip to Kala pathar for amazing sun rise at the closest proximity of Lhotse and Mt. Everest and on the button you will view the biggest Khumbu glacier. After breakfast trek to Pheriche for your comfort overnight.

Walking through the wide valley offers you the great views of Himalaya and takes your time to visit the giant Sherpa village and monastery along the way to Namche Bazar. You might see the Trans Himalayan Market in Namche Bazar on Saturday.

Even though you are trekking back same trails but a lot of different views and Sherpa village will keep your mind busy.
