Itinerary

On the second day, we continue on the classic Everest Base Camp Trek by flying from Kathmandu to Lukla followed by a trek from Lukla to Phakding. The flight from Tribhuwan International Airport (Kathmandu) to Tenzing & Hilary Airport (Lukla) takes about 40 minutes.

If you plan the trek in the peak season, we will first drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap which takes 5 hours. After that, we fly from Ramechhap to Lukla via a flight that takes about 20 to 25 minutes.

As the trekkers land at the Tenzing and Hilary Airport in Lukla, they will meet the guides waiting for them. From there, the guides will take them for a 4-hour trek from Lukla to Phakding. This will be the first walk for the trekkers in the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass. Take a sound rest in the hotel after having the first dinner in the Khumbu region.

Just like the Everest Base Camp Trek, on the third day, we ascend from Phakding to Namche Bazaar which takes about 7 hours. Until this section of the Gokyo Lakes Trek, the trail is pretty much easier than the trail that is waiting in the upcoming days. Moreover, this section of the trek offers the majestic views of the distant mountains including Mt. Everest, Amadablam, Thamserku, and many more.

Within 7 hours of walking, we reach the destination of the day, Namche Bazaar. This is one of the or probably the best checkpoint of the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass, in terms of development and services offered. After Namche Bazaar, the trek takes a little difficult turn and trekkers need to activate their actual trekker mode. So, we recommend trekkers to enjoy the best out of what Namche Bazaar offers.

At Namche Bazaar, trekkers can see a highly developed settlement of the Sherpa people. You can interact with them and immerse into the tradition, culture, and lifestyle they follow at such a higher altitude. In the meantime, we also expect the trekkers to be careful about altitude sickness. After spending the rest of the time exploring the town, you will have dinner and an overnight stay at a comfortable hotel with having attached toilet.

As usual in the Khumbu region trek, it's a rest day or acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar on the fourth day. On this day, trekkers can wake up a little later than usual and have breakfast. After that, we explore the area for a while. Besides, we also encourage the trekkers to visit the Tourist Visitor Centre to learn more about Everest climbers, Sherpa people, and the lifestyle in the Everest region.

After that, the guides take the trekkers on a day hike to Syangboche, famous as the location of the Everest View Hotel (a hotel located at the highest altitude in the world, 3880 meters). We do not just ascend on this hike for fun. Instead, we do that so that the trekkers can adapt to the higher altitude and stay safe from altitude sickness. This is the exact importance of acclimatization day during any trek.

In the evening, we returned to Namche Bazaar (the same hotel that we stayed at the previous night) and had dinner before going to bed.

On the fifth day, we leave Namche Bazaar and start another section of the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass. From this point onward the trekkers need to be highly cautious about their health and hygiene as the risks of altitude sickness rapidly increase. However, along with that, you must also prepare yourself to watch the most majestic views of the mountains and experience what the Himalayas are.

The Namche to Thame route begins with a gentle path slowly climbing towards a village. Gradually, the trekkers take an ascending path towards Khumjung leading them to one of the famous tea houses in the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass route, Kyangjuma. We take a short break here and then continue with the trek. A few more hours of walking in the woods and rhododendron blossoms and we will reach Thame. However, before that the trail descends from Kyangjuma to the Dudh Koshi River before taking a sharp ascend to reach Tengboche (Tyangboche) Monastery. Remember that, Tyanboche monastery is the oldest monastery in the Khumbu region. Due to that reason, trekkers can witness Buddhist monks offering daily rituals in the Monastery. Moreover, the entire area is also very peaceful and the lifestyle is highly influenced by religion.

Another day another checkpoint of the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass map to reach. On the sixth day, trekkers will only have to walk for 5 hours. Covering a total of 8 kilometers and ascending to the maximum altitude of 4380 meters above sea level, trekkers will reach Lunden on this day.

This section of the trail follows the Trans Himalayan trade route of Tibet and the area is much windy (dry wind) with somewhat fewer facilities than the routes until now. Moreover, trekkers also need to be very careful about their pace and you should also strictly follow the instructions provided by the trekkers.

We recommend trekkers have a positive attitude and mindset throughout the journey because that can support a lot to keep your mind at peace and physically strong. However, if you have any issues or feel difficulties, you can always talk to the guides and they will find a way out for sure.

After a sound and restful sleep in Lunden, the trekkers will wake up, freshen up themselves, and then go for a delightful and fulfilling breakfast. After the dinner, your guides will lead you towards Renjo La Pass, one of the two ultimate destinations of the Gokyo Lakes Trek via the Renjo La Pass route. Within a few hours of a comparatively difficult trail, the trekkers will reach the Renjo La Pass (5345 meters, 17,536 feet). The journey to this pass is considered easier than the other two passes (Cho La Pass and Kongma La Pass)

We spend some time in the Renjo La Pass, where trekkers can take as many photos and videos as they want, get the closest view of the Ngozumpa glacier, and feel the cold wind blowing at such a higher altitude. After that, we begin the second section of today's journey, which begins from Renjo La Pass and concludes upon reaching Gokyo Lakes. We walk approximately for 7 hours on this day and cover 7 kilometers to reach Lunden to Gokyo Lakes via Renjo La Pass. As the altitude is very high and the trail is not well-developed, it will be a tiring journey. Therefore, we recommend trekkers take proper rest on the seventh day. Overnight stay and dinner will be arranged by the Global Adventure Trekking team in Gokyo.

Take your moment to explore the serene and peaceful Gokyo Lakes area. Immerse into the rural and remote lifestyle while also glazing into the pristine freshwater of the lakes. You can also walk a little longer to see a couple of lakes that combined make the Gokyo Lakes, the highest freshwater lakes in the world.

As you explore the Gokyo Lakes area, our guides take you to the highest point of the entire Gokyo Lakes via the Renjo La Pass trekking route. Yes, we are en route on the day hike to Gokyo Ri, a beautiful spot at an altitude of 5360 meters above sea level. This part of the Gokyo Lakes via Renjo La Pass Trek is considered to be one of the most difficult routes. That is due to the lack of proper services, good quality tea houses, and a decrease in the oxygen level. Therefore, trekkers need to be very careful while ascending to Gokyo Ri.

One of the best features of Gokyo Ri is that the trekkers can see many 8000 peaks from here. As you reach the top of Gokyo Ri, you will be astonished by the sights of Mount Everest (8849 meters), Makalu (8485 meters), Lhotse (8516 meters), and Cho Oyu (8188 meters). Moreover, the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang adds of charm to the beauty of Gokyo Ri. After you have enjoyed the view of the Himalayas, trekkers can also go for an optional hike up to Cho Oyu or the fifth lake of the Gokyo Lakes series.

Did you enjoy the adventure and thrill of ascending to one of the highest passes of the Khumbu region and the Gokyo Ri? Now that we have explored both Gokyo Lakes and Renjo La Pass, it is time for the trekkers to begin the descending journey. On the ninth day, the trekkers will descend from Gokyo Lake to Dole and the route covers a total of 13 kilometers. This section of the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass takes 7 hours to complete.

Witnessing the beautiful views of the mountains, rhododendron blossoms, and walking with so many memories throughout for about 7 hours, we finally reach Dole. The Global Adventure Trekking team arranges a fulfilling dinner and cozy overnight stay in a guesthouse at Dole to conclude this section of the Gokyo Lakes via Renjo La Pass expedition.

Another day brings in another descending journey in the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass with Global Adventure Trekking. Our journey begins from Dole as soon as the trekkers have their breakfast. Even though we are on the descending journey, this section of the trek offers a lot of ups and downs making it somewhat a challenging route. However, once you reach Namche Bazaar or Khumjung Village, trekkers can witness well-developed Sherpa settlements.

Reaching the developed Namche Bazaar town after passing through several rural and remotely settled villages offers a relaxing and comfortable stay. Therefore, as you reach the final destination of the day, you will feel nothing more than relaxed and comfortable. For an overnight stay and dinner, Global Adventure Trekking arranges a featureful lodge in Namche Bazaar or Khumjung Village.

What's up, trekkers? Did you have a sound sleep in Namche Bazaar or Khumjung Village? Well, now it's time to wake up, have your breakfast, and walk for the second last day of the Gokyo Lakes Trek via Renjo La Pass. On the eleventh day, trekkers will cover a total distance of 19 kilometers but only walk for 7 hours. As this is a descending journey, this part of the trek will not be too much difficult.

You can talk to the guides, share your experience, and enjoy the entire journey from Khumjung or Namche to Lukla. As the trekkers will be tired after seven hours of walk, we rest for the night in Lukla before returning to Kathmandu on a flight the next day.

Today is the day we finally bid farewell to the Gokyo Lakes Trek via the Renjo La Pass area and return to Kathmandu via flight.
