After reaching Pothana, you can rest your bags and enjoy the surrounding views. You can also spend the evening in the common dining area by the fireplace or share experiences of your trek. Enjoy a hearty meal before you head for bed at your cozy teahouse.

On Day 3 of the Mardi Himal trek, you will ascend through rhododendron forests and the serene trails on a 5-hour hike. During this gradual climb to a higher altitude, you can enjoy beautiful mountain views.

In Forest Camp, you will spend a night in a cozy teahouse surrounded by forests.

Your trek from Forest Camp to Badal Danda is a 6-hour journey. The journey takes you through bamboo forests, giving occasional views of the panoramic Himalayan vista. You can find views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and other surrounding peaks.

Before reaching Badal Danda, you will make a steep climb and hike through scenic ridges. In Badal Danda, you will spend the night in a cozy family-run teahouse. Before dinner, you can enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and watch the rolling clouds drift around the hills.

Today is a short hike from Badal Danda to High Camp, but you will find the altitude increasing steadily as you reach a more rugged Himalayan terrain. During your journey, you will find close-up views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail Mountain).

As you approach High Camp, you will find colorful prayer flags fluttering in rhythm with the mountain breeze. In High Camp, the air is thinner, and temperatures drop. For acclimatization, get adequate rest and eat nutritious food at your mountain teahouse. Head for bed early as you prepare for the pre-dawn Mardi Himal Base Camp summit push.

Today’s trek is scheduled to start before sunrise. At dawn, you will push for the epic summit journey to Mardi Himal Base Camp. At the base camp, you can feel the crisp mountain breeze and watch the golden sunrise over Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre.

Food during Mardi Himal Base Camp Trekking in Nepal

The teahouse lodges at the Mardi Himal Trek offer hearty food that is packed with energy. The menu generally consists of Nepali staples like Dal Bhat (with unlimited refills), noodles, and thukpa. You also have Western options like pasta, pancakes, fried rice, and soups. For hot drinks, you can ask for ginger tea, masala chai, and black coffee. Pair these with local snacks like Tibetan bread for breakfast.

The menus at higher-altitude destinations (like Forest Camp, Badal Danda, and High Camp) are simpler. Furthermore, to avoid upsetting your stomach, stick to the vegetarian option.

Drinking Water on the Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek

You will find drinking water in rest stops and teahouses along the Mardi Himal Trekking routes. However, ensure the water is clean. If you are drinking tap water, use purifiers like iodine tablets and other water purifiers.

For clean water, you can also buy bottled water. This can be expensive and cause harm to the environment. So, we encourage you to bring your reusable bottle. Alternatively, you can purchase boiled water at a teahouse. This can cost you extra, but it is cheaper than bottled water.
