The trip to Chulu East begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Besisahar, which takes about six to seven hours. We begin our trek from Besisahar. The trail then ascends steadily along the Marsyangdi river valley into the untouched remote areas of the northern Manang district passing through Bahundanda, Dharapani, Chamje, Bagarchaap, and Hongde, all small villages. A steep, narrow path through an extremely dense forest connects Chamje to Hongde. From Hongde, begins the climb to Chulu East Peak. The trail to Hongde is rocky, steep, and slippery in places.
It takes about four days to reach Chulu Peak from Hongde. From the base camp, you get stunning views of the Annapurna range including Mt.Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I, Nilgiri, Manaslu, and Himchuli. The views of Annapurna II, III, and IV, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Glacier Dome, Tilicho Peak, and Manaslu from Chulu East Peak are just amazing. Passing through pretty landscapes, rocky hills, and remote villages makes the trek even more incredible.
After summiting, you will get down to Manang Valley. The trail back follows the Annapurna Circuit trail ascending slowly through Muktinath and Jomsom. Crossing Thorung La pass adds another level of adventure to this trek before descending to Kali Gandaki Valley. The standard route to climb Chulu East Peak is from the north-east ridge. It takes a day to make it to the top and return to the base camp.
